Hot water heater making noise?

Hi all,
My water heater on my 2007 3400RL is making a lotta noise. It only makes the noise when you run the HOT water side on the faucet. I did take out the anode rod and clean and re-tape where the rod goes and it still is making the noise. I am a fulltimer and have only been in the 5'er for 7 months now since it was purchased new. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what it might be?

I can't imagine what kind of noise you are hearing. Could you be a bit more descriptive, i.e., gurgling, thumping, knocking, poping, etc?

Since it only makes noise when you run hot water I am suggesting you look at the top (hot water out) pipe on the hot water heater. It has a "check valve" which prevents hot water from flowing back into the hot water heater. It may need a "heavy" tap or replacement. That is the only thing I can think of.
Best of luck and let us know what you find.
Cheers,

Ditto what John said. We have had that happen on two of our previous travel trailers. The check valve is a part of the winterizing system. It is spring-loaded, and at times the internal parts will vibrate causing a low-pitched "whining" kind of noise. It is quite easy to replace IF the HW heater is accessible. Most any RV repair facility will have them in stock or 10 to 15 dollars. Just be sure to reinstall with the arrow (indicating direction of flow) the same direction as the original was. As John said, it is on the hot water OUT line. It keeps water from flowing into the heater from that side when the "winter bypass" system is on.

Thanks John and Karl,
It is a low pitch "whine" know that you say it. I didn't know how to describe it. I have tapped on it, but I didn't want to tap too hard. I might just have to replace it. Thanks for the good info.

Jeff,

Sounds like the check valve. If you have a 3400RL, I posted this:

Wow, thanks Michael for the pictures. I don't want to hassle taking in to a dealer for such a small problem. I will go and get a check valve. Do you know or anybody know how long these water heaters will last when fulltiming with them? Thank you.

We've full timed for over seven years without a failure. Don't believe the water heater has an expiration date.

Thanks Orv, I had never asked that question before now. Thanks for your info.
