Dubois Wy

Last night there was a big fire in down town Dubois. Several business were destroyed. I have a good friend who lives in down town Dubois. I'm sure his home wasn't damaged but the town wasn't in good shape finically. Now I wonder if it will survive. Dubois is a beautiful nice little town.

I have that web cam but the fire can't be seen from it. I think the fire was about 2 blocks to the right.

I was there in June this summer. Tried driving Union Pass around 4:30 pm. About 10 miles up (past the nice restaurant a few miles), there was a kiosk and small parking area. About 200 yds beyond the road had a 4 foot snowbank over it. Some tracks going around it about 50 ft down the hill. I pulled in to parking to take pictures, and 2 guys in their 50s or so stopped on bikes. They said they were on the way over the top. They had small rolls on the back of bikes, but no sleeping bags. I asked if they were camping. Reply: "No, we will ride until about 10 pm. and should make it all the way".
So I watched them go around the snow and they only walked about 10 feet. I thought I could get a run and shoot thru there and continue my trek, which I did. Unfortunately over the next hill was ANOTHER snow bank. Since I still had 30-40 miles to make it all the way, I gave up!!!
Too bad about downtown tho. We camped there at (I think ) the KOA in town. Didn't spend enough time to visit the down town tho.

It's a shame, but with things being the way they are now days, any little town is just a bad event from disaster. Hopefully the community can pull together and keep going.

Twindman I think the restaurant was the Sawmill it is closed someone bought it and turned it into their guest house. They are building a very large home on a ranch they bough just north of Dubios.
I was up there this summer in August. We camped at 9300 feet and all the snow was gone except for some on the higher elevations which we walked up to. I was up there 3 years ago on the Fourth of July. There was still snow on the Dubios side twenty feet deep in the shade.

I just talked my friend in Dubois. He said one man owns everything on the left side of the street. The guy has plenty of money and Dan thought he would rebuild. We hope so. A little town like Dubois can't stand a loss like that. It's a tourist town.

Welty's General store and the Cowboy Cafe were at least two of our stops in Dubois. Great friendly folks there. Love the art work there outside as well.

The fire was across the street from the Cowboy Cafe. The man who owns the burnt buildings bought the Walt Disney ranch a few years ago.
