front cap gelcoat flaking off

anybody have this problem? It is coming off in flakes. 2005 big sky

That doesn't sound good! I haven't had it happen (yet) on our Montana and hope to never experience this.

I have never had such an issue, but have not kept a unit as long as you have.

We experienced that problem on our 2000 Monty back in 04- We just endured it and helped it peel each time I washed the old girl- JMHO- Don

Describe flaking off. Are fiberglass strands showing, sticking through the gel coat. Is the surface rough. Wiping your hand across do you get glass fiber splinters. Is it peeling like an overcooked hard boiled egg.

If those are the condition, a good move, assuming you intend to keep it a while longer, is to locate a boat dealer/repair shop. They will have more experience in fiberglass repair work than most any dealer. It sounds like it will need to be peeled and re-gel coated. Not something you would want to do yourself.

Sand it off repaint with base coat and clear coat it, did mine 6 years ago still looks brand new.
