My range top fan is too loud

We have an 08 3000RK Montana. I've got a lot of nice features with it, but that darn range top exhaust fan is super loud. Has anyone replaced it for a more quiet model? If so please let me know where you got it. Thanks.

Look for a computer fan and change it out. Amazon has fan that will fit in there with a little modification. The more CFP min. the better.

My 2009 3400 is loud also. So was the Montana before it, and the SOB before that. Remember, they buy the cheapest things they can get, as long as they "sorta" work.

Ours is loud too. As is the ceiling fan in the "loo". Come to think of it the Fantastic is loud but not as loud as the others. I think a lot of the noise is from the screens right in front of the fans.

Mine is loud also. And even louder if I forget to release the little outside flap to let the air out.

A long time ago (circa 2003) a MOC member posted a mod for the fan that included a couple of Radio Shack resisters and a double-pole, double-throw, center-off rocker switch that effectively gives you two speeds...the super loud one and another about half that speed/volume.

I did the mod on my 1st Monty (2003 2955RL) and it worked great. But now I can't find the schematic and parts list for the mod. I would love to do the same for our current Montana.

Any old-timers remember that mod?

Our previous fiver had a very noisy range fan. I removed the fan blade which had 3 blades, went to the local RV parts store and found one with more blades. Made a world of difference.
Here are some other fixes

Ours really isn't any louder than the one in our old stick house. The kitchen was twice as big and so the noise seemed less.

I did almost the same. I didn't buy a new one, but switched the blades from the range hood and the bathroom vent. 10 minute job, zero cost, and worked great!

Replaced mine with a computer "muffin" fan from Radio Shack. Works well.

My 2010 is also loud. Sounds like changing the 3 blades to more blades is the easy answer.

My memory is trying to tell me that the mod involved 2 each 15 ohm - 20 watt resisters in parallel and wired such that by replacing the SPST rocker switch with a SPDT rocker switch you could have a 2-speed fan. One side of the SPDT goes directly to the fan motor. The other side goes through the parallel resisters to the motor and gives you a reduced speed (and air flow) and noise.

The problem is finding the 20 watt resisters. Radio Shack normally carries 1/2 and 1 watt resisters but not the heavy duty stuff.

Carl n Susan,

This is the one I remember.

http://www.rverscorner.com/info/rangehood.html

I just changed process to fit what I wanted (2-speed fan). But that link is the mod I remember seeing posted.

Thanks.
