Hi Jim,

I don't think the factory units are any better, just easier to have it installed at the factory then puting it in later.

There is lots of issues with having the aftermarket unit ducted & connected to the existing 5 button thermostat, lots of places(especially Camping World) don't know how to do it and try to tell you it cant be done.

But we know it can and HAS been done.

I don't think the factory sells the low profile units, but you could ask.

We just successfully had our low profile unit installed today. Our 2nd CW attempt after CW in NJ was unable to install after 3 hrs, 3 RV dealers in our area refused to take it on. It was 4 hrs labor but was successfully installed by knowledgeable skilled RV tech at Harrisburg CW. I will tell you most of our problem was we had the older 5 button thermostate and the mother board had to be changed. If you are buying a new unit it comes with a 12 button thermostate which the low profile unit is set up for. It does take 3-4 hrs labor adding to the cost of the air. It has been a nightmare getting it in and ducted but hopefully well worth the frustration. Good Luck!

Just wondering how much the total height would increase by adding the 2nd A/C unit. Also for someone who is from the northeast, is the 2nd unit necessary?
Thanks
Jim
Jim,

Don't know what year you have, but the Specification for all 2010 Montana's say the Exterior Height - Top of the A/C is 12'9". The extra weight is around 100lbs.
