2012 F-350 SRW

We made a deal on a new 2012 F-350 SRW to pull our 3400RL in Burkurnett,Tx. Which is about 325 miles from Amarillo, Tx. We would like to pull our Monty there and get the truck, get the hitch swap over then go back to home. The Ford dealer sevice manager said the 6.7L does not require a break in period ??? !!! I always put a 1,000 miles on with no cruise control before pulling a heavy Monty.
Question is: The 325 miles back to Amarillo, is this OK ???
Thanks,
Les

If ford says it is okay, I wouldn't worry about it

Break it in the same way you are going to drive it.

I was told a least 500 miles before towing, we started on our fisrt trip with about 625 miles and never had a problem. You will never know the 3400 is in back of you, it its a great pulling truck.

My owners manual says 500 miles of varied throttle positions with no load. If you follow the owners manual on this there won't be any guessing involved.

Another vote for at least 500 miles as per the diesel supplement from Ford. I went ahead and did 1000 just to be extra conservative and make sure it has a good break-in. It is not so much for the engine but for the rearend too. A few city trips and some highway and then you're trip out and you should be good.

When I bought my 6.7 the dealer was emphatic that we put 500-600 miles on the truck before pulling. Manual clearly states 500. Dealer felt so strongly that he let us keep both the new and old truck for about two weeks, because I was moving a fifth wheel for a friend, and then picked up the tab to reinstall my hitch on the new truck. As indicated above, that 6.7 and six speed are great, best truck I have pulled with. Also, manual requires 5W40 oil for extended towing, and your truck normally comes off the production line with 5W30.

I think I would give the new truck a little shake down run and put the 500 or so on before hauling the trailer. You would probably be OK to haul right away but IF something should go wrong (which is highly unlikely) then Ford cannot point at the book and say "well, you didn't follow the written word in the owners bible". I often wonder, if you bought a new Kenworth to pull freight cross country would you have to give it a break-in run....or does a trucker just jump in and get down to business. I think they get to haul'n right away. But if you can give it a break-in run I would do it.

Don't trust the dealer. Trust the owners manual.

Register your truck on the Ford Website and post all your service items including documentation of the 500 mile break in miles. Your dealer will do this if you ask if you get your service at the dealer. If not it documents for warranty purposes that you have complied with the warranty requirements.
