We have decided to buy the 2012 Montana 3402rl but now we need to buy the TV. We are getting the short bed (6.6) and the pull rite super glide automatic. Is there anything else we need to make this TV pull any better. Just want to be sure we do not mess up the TV order. Thanks Gwen

I suggest the super rails as well as the specific catch plate to fit your pinbox. The universal catch plate looks like it would be more prone to failure/misalignment (JMHO)
Feel free to PM me if you have specific questions on the hitch. I'm very happy with mine and it works great!
BTW, welcome to the MOC and congratulations on your new rig!
New rig & TV... lucky you...

If you have no special reason for getting the short bed, you might reconsider the 8 foot bed, which would eliminate the need for the slider and give you a bit more carrying space. Your duramax is a great choice for towing. Congrats on both new acquistions!

I agree 100%. I'd take a long bed over a short one every time for the reasons stated. I put a tool box in the front of our bed and it's packed with emergency gear.

Longbed/Shortbed ... Both will do the job. Other posters are right about the long bed if you plan on mounting a toolbox in the bed. I personally don't need the storage in the bed and the truck doesn't require as much room to park. I use my truck as a daily driver, so the SB works well for me. Truth be told, I'd be happy with either SB or LB.

2011 Chevy 3500HD SRW crew cab short bed here and I have a tool box in the front of the bed with plenty of room for my Husky slider hitch.

Yes, but if getting a new TV, I would opt for a long bed Dually to better handle the pin weight of that 3402 (dry pin 2305 making real world weight more like 3000 or more, we're 700 Lbs plus more than our dry pin weight). That's just my opinion, you may have specific reasons for the short box SRW. For us it's purpose is to move the Monty from one place to another (both retired so we don't need a daily driver)

I am envious. Since I retired, I use my daily driver more than ever. It seems the "honey do" list keeps getting longer and longer and long....

I've had both - I liked the short bed for its maneuverability, but after getting a long bed, I'll never go back. When you need the room, and over time you'll find a need, the short bed won't cut it even when you drop the tailgate. With a long bed and the tail gate down, there's 10 feet of length which I've used many times! Also, adding a toolbox, a cover with a canister, or just carrying things still leaves lots of room for stuff in a long bed. You'll get used to the longer length over time and the mpgs aren't very much different from my experience.

Finally with a long bed and no slider requirement that adds weight and cost, you can use the money and weight for other things. Yes, there are some who say, don't use a slider in your short bed, but I have either seen too many dinged and damaged cabs (including the rear window), or heard of others who've made repairs to know that it only takes one time to then need a slider, then you've wasted even more money rebuying the proper hitch or risk damaging your vehicle. But if parking is a big part of your travels, the short bed is so much easier.

If I were buying a small fiver then I'd consider a short bed truck to go with it, but a big Monty? The extra two feet will make a huge positive difference for most of us. I just admire the others who stick with the short bed and hope they don't have problems. It's just one less thing to worry about for me, but I'm kinda lazy and prefer to worry about other things. But if minimizing the odds of carrying more stuff is a priority, then the short bed helps you stick to that.

We try to provide as much information to help you decide overall. You will realize one person's advantages or disadvantages may not match yours and the majority opinion is just that, a majority. Many times the minority opinion works just fine for others, including me.

Have fun with the new rig. The best for you is that you joined MOC BEFORE you became a new owner. I wish I had done that. I've learned too much through ignorance... .

If you like the short bed then stick with it. I have towed Monty with a long bed, but we now have a short bed. Yesterday I back into a very tight spot, it was actually easier with the short bed because my truck is shorter. I have a Husky hitch and it is not a slider and have never had a problem. My only problem with the my short bed Ford is the fuel tank is smaller than the one on the long bed.

I would second the dual rear wheels if this is to be a dedicated tow vehicle. And I don't know the Chevy gears available, but maybe someone can address the options that are available for that.

I had a short bed and my new truck is a long bed dually. I did not like the super glide slider since it limits what you can put in the bed with the hitch arm swinging in the bed. I will say the hitch worked well since it was automatic. Choices-choices. It was fits for you.Good luck.

Standard gears for GM with a Duramax is 3.73 you have to move up to the 4500 I think to get anything different
