NO BRAKE/TURN SIGNAL LIGHTS - Montana Owners Club

I finally hooked her up and pulled out of storage for first time. I am at the house now-but I have running lights and no brake or turn signal lights. Any ideas? It appears that the truck plug is not sending the signal to the trailer because there is no power to that part of the plug when we test that hole. Is there a special fuse or something we need to do in the truck to activate all lights?

What type of TV do you have. You probably have a seperate brake and turn signal fuse. That would be the first thing I would check.

bolinski - welcome to the forum. To help, we need a little more information, such as what year and model truck to you have?

On my GMC, there is a connection under the rear of the truck, behind the rear axel; in my case, this connector had a bent pin from the factory, so was not getting power to right side brake lights.

Check you fuse block on the truck. Your owners manual will have the location of brake fuse. If I had to guess it's a 20 amp. fuse.
Also note that sometimes there are 2 fuse blocks. One under dash at drivers left foot and one under the hood.

Found it-blown 25 amp fuse that manual says is for trailer brake lights!!!! yipeee!!! Might try a 30 amp fuse or is that a no no?

Not to change subjects but!!!! I did hear a popping sound centered around the wheels when I made any kind of turn. Still have those crappy mission tires on but I don't think it's the tires. Axel maybe?

I would stick to the 25A fuse when you find one. That popping sound is common. These things don't like to turn, so they fight back!

At one point on my 2008 Ford F350, I had intermittent loss of the brake to the trailer connection. The dealer traced all my wiring and discovered that I some broken electrical connections near the electronics module. They fixed the connections and no more trouble with the connection, brake lights or taillights.

Later, on another service call, the dealer did an upgrade on the software. The computer would not take the upgrade. They discovered there was a bad board in the computer module associated with the trailer brake control and computer. They replaced the board and upgraded the software. My feeling is that the wiring problem and intermittent connection is what caused the module to fail.

When I have a fuse fail, I always want to know what caused it to blow. It may or may not be indicative of a more serious problem. I sure hope the fuse solves the problem.

Thanks everyone-Would like to know if anyone else has those popping type sounds coming from the tire/axle area when turning sharp?

I think that all of the 5th wheels that I've owned have those popping sounds when in a sharp turn. It puts a lot of stress on the axles but I've never had a problem.

Be sure to re-torque the lug nuts quite often at first until they no longer loosen. Use the "Search" feature in the top R/H corner of this page to search for threads like this one on that subject.
