Washer detergent ?

Can anyone tell us if there is a special kind of detergent we need to use in our Whirlpool stackable washer or can we use regular Tide, etc? Thanks.

We have the Splendid Stackables and use the Splendide detergent. I don't think the brand is important but remember that it has to be a low-suds, low-filler product because you are sending the rinse water into the grey tank where foaming is obviously not desired. If the price seems formidable, DW has been using one box of Splendide (100 loads for around $20.00) for four straight weeks now, and has figured out that the although the cost seem high, since it is a concentrated product that the cost per week is about the same as her Tide usage at home. That is something we never expected.

We tried the detergent pouches from Camping World that you just through in with the clothes. It's low suds designed for RV. Seems to work fine so far, and no mess.

Bingo - You're wash drain goes direct to the main sewer line, not the tank. (Unless you are opening the tank valve and capping the main sewer line and letting it come back in). If you look right below the WD closet, you'll see the drain line.

Traveltunes 340 will be the same.

Brad,
Can you clarify that some more?? We don't leave any of the tank valves open, yet the washer drain still goes through the sewer line?? That is interesting because I thought the valves always prevented any eight legged creatures from coming back up the drains into any of the three tanks, do I have a way in through the washer that I didn't know about??

Bingo -

The washer drain feeds direct into the main sewer drain line - no valves inbetween. Just the travel cap on the end of the main sewer drain. Guess if you want to keep crawly things away, you would have to put another valve on the main drain.

Arachnophobia is treatable. However, the chances of a spider crawling up a drain, traversing a holding tank and coming out some orifice in the RV is somewhere between slim and none and "slim" went to Australia.

To run any washer/dryer, single unit, stackable or whatever, there has to be an outlet for the water. Newer units may have the washer drain piped directly to the sewer outlet, but older units are piped into the gray water tank. If you leave the gray water dump valve closed while washing, soon you will end up with an undesirable geyser in your lavatory and/or you shower (this is experience talking).

When we wash we must leave the gray water valve open, which is, of course, attached to the septic tank pipe. So where will the spider come from? Should one, by any means, get into the line, I don't know of any spiders that can withstand the onrush of a spinning rinse cycle. So he would soon be doing the back stroke in the septic tank.

ps: We just use Tide. The gray water tank always reads "empty" after dumping.

Our Monty was W/D prepped from the factory when we got it. We purchased the Splendide 2100 and it drains directly into the grey tank, not the main pipe. I don't know if the dealer did this or if that was the way it was originally set up by the factory. We see the tank fill on the gauges whenever a load is done. Have to empty the grey after a couple of loads or so. - Jim

On my unit the washer drains into the galley gray tank; if it is empty we can do one wash load and tank shows 2/3 full. Not gutzy enough to see how much of a 2nd load we (I) can do before geyser erupts . Have read in earlier posts where some have the washer plumbed into the black tank from the factory -- lot of discussion as to why but Montana admitted that it was done that way. So, as in many things on these units, it appears to be the luck of the draw as to how one's washer is going to be plumbed.

By the way - to answer the original question -- we use Tide HE -- but we also have Neptune washer at home and it is the same detergent we use there as well.

At least on the newer Monty's -

Those models with the W/D closet by the door that accepts stackables drains direct. Those models with the Washer location in the nose (bedroom closet) will drain to the gray tank.

Those of you who use Tide, what measurement do you use per load?

2 tablespoons like the directions say. I bought a coffee scoop and leave it in the tide. Where it drains depends on the year and time of year. We think we are lucky because ours goes into the gray and helps keep the gray clean (all that hair dye you know). LOL
Happy trails.....................

Dianna says that we use half or less of the measuring cup included in the box of tide for a full load.
