crazy Toyota owner

So wse were on our trip across Kansas and we stopped at a rest stop to stretch out when I spied a Toyota pulling a 5th wheel. Now I didnt measure the trailer but It had 2 roof ac units so my guess would be longer than 34 foot. Now to my best understanding Toyota doesn't make a 3/4 or one ton truck. Looked like he had had a tire blow out because the trim around the wheel was ripped and parts missing. i also noticed that some of the underbelly panels were coming lose or at the very least damaged. Well we left the rest area thinking that guy must be nuts to tow that way back of truck was sagging so bad. Well That guy must have left the rest stop about the same time as me and he caught us and passed us. Speed limit was 75 and I was doing 70 which is my max towing speed. Well we kept going down the road when he must have had to stop for fuel and he passed us again. He was from Oregon. Just thought I would share my story.
If this is in the wrong place please move it. Thanks Art

I don't know what his camper weighed or what the weight limits on his truck are. A properly equipped F150 can tow over 12000 pounds.

Towing capability is one consideration, the other is pin weight. A Tundra, depending on configuration and options has a payload of about 1500lbs +/- a couple hundred pounds. If you figure about 20% pin weight on a fiver that's a max of about 7500lbs for the loaded fiver. I'm not aware of any of fivers that size. Plus you need to figure passengers, cargo, and fuel in that 1500lbs. He was over the GVWR for the truck, no doubt.

Towing at 75MPG on ST tires which are rated at 65MPH is a whole different discussion....

Come on guys. He saw the Toyota pull the Space Shuttle on TV so he's got to be good towing a 5th wheel.

Unless both max tow and max cargo options the F150 will be over also. Many have max tow, few max payload. Max payload on the lot would be extremely rare, few are ordered. The F150 can often pull a longer TT (until the wind blows hard) but very few are ready for all but the lightest 5ers.

This was no small 5th wheel it was a full size with 2 roof AC's. My 5th wheel is 13,000 pounds loaded and I am at the limit for my 3/4 ton truck. This guy was able to pull it but he sure looked like he had no business doing it with that truck. Hope he got it home. he was not having a good trip for sure.
