Our A/C won't work
We don't need A/C yet, but will and we are 2.5 hours from our dealer, the closest RV service center. We called them and they said to climb on the roof and make sure that the fan was not frozen. Bernie checked it and it turns with no trouble.
When we turn on the A/C and adjust the thermostat, you can hear it click, but nothing runs. Short of taking a day off from work and traveling to Anchorage (a pain since we live in this fulltime), do any of y'all have any suggestions. The A/C worked in December when we tested it the day of delivery. The rig is still under warranty as we have only had it 5 months.
Thanks!
Tammy

Did you check the breaker to make sure it wasn't tripped?

It's probably to cold for it to come on! You are in Alaska, remember?
Check all the wiring and fuses.

We checked the breaker. No problem. All fuses look good. Bernie was going to take the cover off inside and see if he could see anything. We are hoping it's a wire he can access from this side and correct it.
We have been as warm as the high 60's already. I know the A/C won't run if it's really cold out, but shouldn't that be warm enough to test it??? All we get is the click and nada.

Im sure you know there is a delay, so you can not turn from heat to Air right a way, also if you turn on the air and off and then back on it will not come on because of the delay. I think its between 3-7 minutes. So I'd say turn it on, and wait 10 minutes. If it does not start then its not the delay causing the problem.

Bob, does it matter if you've had the heater "on" but it hasn't run for hours. Or, does the thermostat itself require the 3 -7 minute delay? If so, that could potentially be our problem. I'll ask Bernie. I am not sure if he's given it delay time or not. I'm sure he has, but I'll check.
Thanks!

Good question, I don't know for sure, I think yes if the heat is on and you switch to air, the delay kicks in. But if you turn on the air and just leave it set at 45, it should kick in within 10 minutes. If not then its not the delay. Air 45, room temp 60, it should be OK to kick in.

Alright. I'm going to turn off the thermostat now. It's 3:25 here. Bernie won't be home for at least 2 hours. That should be a long enough delay!!! We should get our answer soon! Thanks again!!!

Tammy, while down in Ga. this season we would move to a new CG and the trailer would be way hot inside. We would turn the rear AC and it would take about 7 or 8 minutes for it to kick on. The front on the other hand kicks on the right away, the fan that is. it takes the front unit about a minute for the compressor to kick in. That usually starts the cooling process but there is usually a fair delay before the rear unit starts.. Dave

Tammy, turn on the air and set the thermostat to 45. If after 10 minutes the air does not kick in, then you can either turn it off or turn the heat back on. If the air kicks in within the 10 minutes than the delay is working and that was probably the reason the AC did not start right away.

Bob, the A/C unit is making noise like it's running, but there's no air coming out of the vents. I checked them all. I also made sure that the flood gates aren't open on the unit to drop it right into the kitchen.

Dave, we only have the one unit - in the kitchen. We didn't think we'd need 2 in Alaska!! Should I just let the A/C keep running and see if it kicks in? I'm not going to hurt anything am I? I don't want to have to tell Bernie that Elly Mae is broke - especially without my sidekicks here!!

ya might open the flood gates just to see if the air is cold. Yes let it run for ten to twenty minutes.

Tammy, I'm good for only one miracle a day , you got it started. Can't help if its not cooling. Maybe Bernie can figure that out when he gets home. Now that you know it will start up, I'd turn it off of its not cooling.

Allright, I turned it off. Nothing ever came out of the vents. Hmmmph!
Thanks Bob and Dave for your help. Now, Bernie gets to figure out the rest of the puzzle...

Just to cover all the bases, when nothing was coming out of the vents, what was the position of the shut off vent on the unit? If open, no air will come from any of the vents...it will all come out at the bottom of the unit. If closed, the air should come out of all the vents.
FYI, the manual says there will be an approximate two minute delay when "cool" is selected for the compressor to start.

Bill, I tried both. I had the vents, i.e., the flood gates, on the A/C unit closed. Nothing came out of any of the vents in the ceiling. I then opened the flood gates and waited. Nothing came out of the flood gates. I let it run for nearly 5 minutes. I finally just turned it off.

If no air was coming out of the vents, what was running?
