Do you leave your rig plugged in?
With my old travel trailer I kept it plugged in because of the ammonia / propane fridge. I have residential all electric fridge now. Which is best? To plug in, or not to plug in? That is the question.

Ours is parked at the house. I leave it plugged in all the time. It becomes the "She shed" so it is always in use.
Check the battery fluid levels regularly.

Have no idea what make/model/year RV you have. My residential frig will probably run for at least 24 hours or more just off my two house batteries if my fiver isn't plugged in and nothing else is drawing off them.
I'm guessing if your unit is newer than you would have two sealed 12v batteries so no need to worry about checking their water level.

Everyone uses their camper differently. We use ours enough that we have duplicate appliances and bedding in our camper and we can leave with a few hours notice on our next adventure (retired of course). So, our fridge stays stocked as well as the pantry. So, we leave ours plugged in and ready to go. Enjoy the journey.

Yep, plugged in all the time. When traveling, inverter is always on too. Camper is always an hour away from being able to hit the road. Camper get's used every day, at home, traveling, and camping.

Does the inverter automatically come on when you unplug it, and plug it into your truck?

There is a separate battery cut off to the inverter. It has to be in the "on" position. The inverter has a push on-off button. It has to be "on" also.
When the camper is plugged into shore power, the transfer switch detects the power and turns off the output from the inverter, from the battery.
When the camper is unplugged from shore power, the transfer switch will switch over and allow AC power from the inverter, from the battery to power the refrigerator.
When the camper is unplugged from shore power and hooked up to the tow vehicle, the transfer switch switches over to the inverter, via the trailer battery. Hooked up to the truck or not, makes no difference. It only switches back and forth when plugged into shore power or not.
However, the truck will trickle charge the camper battery when in-tow, thus keeping the battery charged all the time. So, as the truck is charging the battery, the battery is supplying DC power to the inverter. The inverter is transforming DC to AC power. The AC power now goes to the transfer switch. The transfer switch detects no shore power, but power from the inverter, and will allow a continuous AC power feed to the refrigerator.
A picture is worth a thousand words:

William,
Your inverter should always be on except when it is in storage.

Nope, battery switch off low amp. Solar charger to batteries. Sadly haven’t been able to use it for a long time. Only plug it in a few days before we leave!
