Went that way 2 years ago when we were headed for Devils Tower and ran into snow. Went Newcastle to Custer and it is a 2 lane road and not much shoulder and a few tight turns but VERY doeable. We were towing a 3400RL and other than slowing down it is a fine road. Goes thru the wind cave area. Have fun in South Dakota.

Minot is in North Dakota. Our prayers go out to those folks, bad stuff there.
We are seeing high water in all rivers out here, Yellowstone River is at flood level or a bit higher around Billings. In Yellowstone National Park they are at flood levels, some hiking trails around the river are under water, and they do not expect the peak till mid or late July. And, all that said, we never felt in danger during the days we spent there last week.
That said, at this point, all is well out here, and we are enjoying the trip!
The ride in on 16 from Newcastle was fine. Just that one short stretch where the road wiggles a lot, about half way between Newcastle and Custer, there is no shoulder in that section, speed limit set wayyyyyy down, like 35 and lower around the many turns. No signs or limitations on length of rigs was seen posted.
We had a LOT more trouble getting INTO our campsite than getting here. The long long long grades we were fighting the day before around Billings and down to Buffalo were much worse than most of what we drove today.
We are monitoring roads and are in contact with other MOC friends that have insider information. One can never be tooooooo careful, or have toooooooo many MOC friends that are willing and eager to share what they know.
And, we may shy away from campgrounds with river views for a while???

Pontoons work well for the riverveiw lots! Oh, and a heavy rope for the bow and stern and a good heavy anchor! Enjoy Custer and the Black Hills!

We arrived in Custer Yesterday with the grand kids and will be here until July 6th. (if we survive the little one) We are staying at Flintstones Bedrock City, plenty here to keep them busy.

I remember staying there when I was a kid and one morning in July we woke up to snow on the ground!!
Two years later we stayed in Custer area and visted Wind Caves, Bedrock RV Park among other sights. Wish we could go back again this year....
