What Spare Tire did you get? - Montana Owners Club

I just recently replaced the tires on our 2019 3791RD with new Sailun ST235-80R16G tires from SimpleTire. Tires on rear axle were wearing heavily on the inside edge. I went ahead and replaced all 4 tires. Long story, but due to FedEx losing one tire, then finding it after SimpleTire replaced it, I ended up with 5 new Sailun tires, so I decided to replace my spare.
The original spare was a Rainier 235-80R16 Load Range F tire, not Load Range G like the original tires.
My sticker lists all tires as 235-80R16G tires, including the spare, and specifies 110 PSI.
Here's my question: If the sticker says 235-80R16G tires on both axles and spare at 110 PSI, shouldn't the spare have been a load range G tire too?
Also, the spare is a white generic wheel and I can't find any stamp to indicate it is 110 PSI rated. All 4 other wheels do have a stamp on the inside of the wheel, but nothing on the spare. Any idea how to tell for sure? I always kept 110 PSI in the spare but it was never on the ground. Now I have a Sailun 235-80R16G tire on that wheel with 110 PSI in it. Just want to make sure it's right before I need it.

Sounds like they pulled a fast one on you. Re the spare rim, if I were in your shoes, I would mount the sailun on the spare rim, and keep at PSI of 85. Not sure you will get a straight answer re PSI rating except from the rim manufacturer.

The white steel wheel will handle 110 PSI.

The steel rims are all rated for 110 PSI. And the spare rim is always a steel one. But you did get cheated on the tire as it should have been G rated.

Thanks for confirming my suspicion. I really hadn't noticed what the spare was until I pulled it out to replace since I had an extra tire. When I first got the rig, I pulled the spare and put a TPMS sensor on and remounted it with the valve down, but I haven't had it out since. I'm glad I found it before I needed it. I'm sure after 2 years now that Keystone won't make good on this. I'd be really curious just how few dollars they saved by giving me a substandard tire.
Buyer beware as they say!
Since they spec a G rated tire on the vehicle placard, even for the spare, it seems they should have put a G rated spare on it. That's really a safety issue.

Just make sure that the spare has a bolt in valve stem as the pull through bonded metal/rubber type are not rared at 110psig

It may have been your dealer that swapped the spare.

It does. Also stamped with 3780 lbs max but no psi rating.

My OEM spare was a Rainier G rated tire. I bought 5 new Saliuns about a year ago and had the spare replaced. I recently installed a TST507 tire monitoring system and the spare had a metal stem for the non-flow thru cap I put on it.

I checked the air pressure in the spare when we did the PDI last month and it was 105 pounds, mounted on a white spoke steel wheel. I couldn't swear to the fact that it was a Sailun so I checked it today. It is a S637 , same as the others.

I agree, it most likely was your dealer that had to swap out your spare for someone that had an issue with a tire. My spare is the same rim that is on the rest of the trailer and same tire rating. I would take it up with your dealer. I recently had an issue with a propane regulator and they didn’t have it in stock so they took one off a new rigs in their showroom. They swap parts all the time so my guess is it was the dealer.

Bottom line; the spare tire that came as OE with the trailer MUST be the same designated size as what is displayed on the vehicle certification label. If not, the consumer can force a no cost recall for the proper tire size.

Thanks Cal. Other than wanting to make sure the rim could handle 110 psi, that was kind of my point. After 2 years now, I know CW will do absolutely nothing about the tire, but it really irks me that should I have needed that spare on the road, I was risking a blow out with a lower load range tire than is specified on the placard.
I've learned more about trailer tires than I ever wanted to know on this forum, and thanks in no small part, to your expertise. It's great to have this resource.
Now I have 5 new Sailuns, but they are the ones made in Vietnam. Several problems reported here and other places. I've got about 3,000 miles on them and so far, so good. The original ones were made in China and have been just fine. I only replaced them since the rear axle had lost its camber and wore them out.
