Scare light out, need a bulb, where???

Ok, one of our scare lights is burnt out. It takes a 1295 12 volt light bulb,

It is hard for us to believe, but we cannot FIND one?? Stopped at several auto parts dealers, several RV dealers, even a Camping World here in Michigan and we CANNOT find one!

Al found one online for between 1 and 2 bucks, shipping was $7.00.

Found one auto parts dealer near by that will order one, for $4 to $5.

GULP

We are finding that most places don't even know what a 1295 is!

SOOO, anyone know a source that actually HAS one??

We had the same problem last year. We went ahead and paid $4.99 a bulb from NAPA Auto Parts. We bought three, one for each scare light and a replacement/spare. None of the local RV shops had any "in stock" but they were even higher priced. It is a rare bulb I guess, but we thought we had to have them, So.......what else you gonna do?

If I remember correctly, it is something like a 25watt bulb, there were other 12volt bulbs that would have worked but they where a much smaller wattage like 10, 12.5, and 15.

Last week I found both the outside lights and the interior lights (smaller glass "slip in" lights) in the RV section at Wal-Mart. Might be worth a try.

I'll have to check out mine. I looked in my NAPA cross-reference/Application catalogue and the 1295 bulb is listed as a "side marker" bulb. The demensions look close to the 1156 (single filament)bulb---I buy these by the box for the fleet---about $.85 each...! Must be the amp rating. The catalogue says 3 amps @ 12.5 Volts for the 1295. Now you folks have my curiosity going full-tilt. Back to the research...

Have you tried Pep Boys or any other auto shop that sells 12V bulbs?

we have always had great luck with finding alomost any hard to find bulb for about anything at www.bulbs.com

Radio Shack has a lot of different bulbs. We found one for our home microwave light, the one under the microwave. Sears wanted $35.00, for a tiny bulb!!! Radio Shack was $1.50. That is first place we would look for bulbs.

Did not think of Radio Shack to tell the truth, good suggestion!

Al called oh, 2 or 3 auto parts places around here yesterday, and at least 2 RV joints. NONE of them knew what a 1295 was, not even the RV places. Imagine that?? One auto dealer would only sell us a box, of 10.

Al finally found one of the auto parts places that would order them in, and then sell us ONE, and have them today! So, he said OK. They quoted one price, on delivery today, they sold to us for LESS than the quoted price! How many times does that happen?? SOO, he got one for $3.90 plus the blood money that went to the state government, errr, tax!

I think we stopped at half a dozen auto parts places while in the RGV, and NONE of them had any and probably 95% of them had no idea what the bulb was!

Oh,well, got ONE now! And, I know where 9 more are, for the next 9 times we need one! HA HA, there obviously is no call for them, no demand. The guy at the auto parts place knew that and even told Al, when you need another, come on back, we will have them!

I found the bulb at Carquest..they had to order but it came in overnight. The cost was 2.61 I think the number was 1295 or 1294 or 1264.

Been there done that! Looked at SEVERAL stores and FINALLY found one at Schuck's in Moses Lake, Wa. The young man spent about 45mins between looking in their guides and comparing bulbs on ALL the displays. He found something on one of the special racks. I bought 2, where is that spare now. It worked but only half as bright. The neighbors on that side really like that.LOL

I had a problem with water in my outside lights. took them apart resealed them and drilled 2 1/8in. drain holes in bottom of lense. Stopped the water problem.
Could only find the bulbs at NAPA. They are 12v 35watt bulbs. They are brighter than other single pole bulbs. Each cost 8.95. They were sylvania bulbs. Could not find them by any other brand.
When we bought 5er took all covers off ALL lights and listed quantity of each and I have a section in a drawer with all replacement bulbs on hand for both rv and pu.

A little off topic but not much .. When replacing any outside light, include a little Vasaline on the contacts. This will STOP any corosion before it happens. I've used this on my old boat trailer lights (they would get wet alot) and it worked wonders.

Before I learned how the search feature works on this sight, I was searching for replacement bulbs for my "scare" lights and got the following from Sylvania's customer service folks.

Thank you for your inquiry. MSCD stands for mean spherical candela (in laymen's terms: candle power). This rating can be converted to lumens by multiplying MSCD by 12.57 (4p). Part 1295 is only available in the color amber, and its complete part number is 1295NA. You cannot use part 1156 in the place of part 1295 because part 1156 is a clear bulb. It is also available in amber; the part number is 1156A.

The brightest of these parts would be part 1295NA because it has the highest MSCD. There are no halogen upgrades available for any of these parts. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any other questions.

I just bought 2 at Carquest, 1295 12 volt 35 watt and clear. Cost around 2.61 each, I think I saw them come from a package with the name Wagner on it. Good luck!
