Fresh water drain

Has anyone modified their fresh water drain plug so you don't have to get on your knees to reach it ?..Seems they could have figured out a better method.

My sentiments exactly and not just the freshwater but the 2 low point drains as well. You would think that with all of todays technology there would be a better system.

Yep,

Added elbow and a short piece of line available at any RV shop and brought it to the side of the Rig. A clamp screwed to the under side holds the new line.

On our new 3475 the low point drains are just inside the drivers side basement. After just flushing the fresh water tank today I will move the drain plug.

The first change on my Monty was to take the plugs out and replace them with quater turn plastic valves.
Now I just reach under and turn the knobs.

I still have to get on my knees, or close to it, but did the same as awaywego. Here's a picture. Parts are available at Lowe's and Home Depot. I got the threaded one that uses the same threads the old cap used.

Clever ideas - thanks for the photo, Steve. I've been wanting to do something like that. But I also want to be able to attach a hose for draining into the sewer rather than just dumping fresh water on the ground when I need to empty the freshwater tank and take on 'fresher' water. Has anyone attached a hose fitting? Would that be hard to do?

Lowe's or any hardware store will have the necessary fitting to switch from the thread of the valve to a garden hose thread.

I replaced the capped valve that came Monty with a quarter-turn valve purchased from the dealer. Then I bought a 20' lenth of flexible hose that pushes onto the bottom of the valve. I am told if you use denatured alcohol on the fitting it helps sliding the hose onto the fitting. You still have to get on your knees to turn the valve but it is better than the original.

My 1999 came from the factory with drain valves already in place. I wonder why they eliminated such an inexpensive yet useful item on later production units?

Searchers, ours came with caps you had to unscrew to open the hose. Naturally, it's nearly impossible not to get sprayed when the cap is partially removed but not enough to pull it off the hose. Did yours come with an actual valve? Come to think of it, I think our 2001 2880RL had valves on it.

Yes Steve, it came with 1/4 turn valves similar to the ones in the picture you posted. I've got to make a round trip to Sacramento early in the morning but will check for a part # or supplier name when I return.
