Generator
I'm in the process of getting an Onan micro quite type 4000 watts generator installed in my rig (2955RL). I'm checking out if anybody as already installed one and is it profitable for us? It would be nice to hear. I know that the price range might be high since they go in an area of $6000.00 installed. Are they worth the price?
Thanks in advance

We have one in our Montana. This is the third rig it has been in. Ours runs on LPG. It is 3600KW because of that. It runs great. We didn't use it much 270 Hrs. in ten years, but it is nice to have when you need it. Most of the use was on my hunting and fishing trips. Be sure it will fit. On our 3280 they had to build a shelf as the compartment was too narrow at the bottom. That raised the cost of moving it. We went with LPG as we didn't want to carry a gas can. I think you will enjoy it and when you change rigs you can move it.

I use two Honda EU 2000 synchronized together. They run for 4 to 6 hours on a full tank of gas. We had a 30 AMP plug installed by dealer in front of Monty. I put the two generators in a basket on the Class IV hitch receiver. Plug the generators in and run down the road air conditioning the wife's mutts in the back. Their very quiet generators and have Honda reliability. Paid $875 including shipping about 1 month ago from a place called Alamia Inc on-line. In the winter when you only need one to run basics you can leave the other at home. One will actually power the AC up without any thing else running. Both unitws have about 50 hours on them already.

dige1,
$6K sounds a little high. We're planning on getting the 5KW LP generator in a couple of years, the current quote installed was just under $3K, although we already have the full generator prep in our rig. Shop around.

I use the two Honda's also, but most of the time we are out we have hook-ups so really do not use them much. I use them with my truck camper more. They are very quiet.

I have a onan like your asking about. The operation is smooth and quiet. I love it, the convenience of an installed unit is great. (thats what your paying for) I had used the Hondas as mentioned by others and they did the trick, but having the generator installed is the way to go in my book. Plan on a 1/2gal an hour to operate...really depends on the load.

We use 2 Honda 2000s but had looked seriously at getting an oran model installed. What we had considered was its installation under our tow vechicle vs in the unit. This would allow us to tie it in the gasoline supply and exhaust system and broader application than strictly the TT.

Stopped in yesterday at Camperworld in Bollingbrook, Illinois. They have the Honda 2000 on sale for $899. Anyone seen a better price? If not, I'll probably order one (free shipping) at the end of the month. Also, is there an easy way to hook into the house for emergency power? Thanks in advance, I know a lot of you have the answers out there.

Mayberrys.com has them for $879. They are in NJ. Shipping could be up to about $40 depending on how far it has to be shipped.

I use the Honda EU3000. It fits in the main storage bay. It's a little heavy at 135lbs but I love it. It will run 16 hours on 3 gallons of gas. It is so quiet I have to check it to see if it is still running.
The only drawback is it will run the a/c and fridge and not much else. But it works great for us when we boondock. Price about $1800.

One thing to consider if you're looking at hooking a generator into your house is that these little hondas are only 110 so no Dyer, Stove, Well Pump or anything that runs on 220 will be able to be setup

Thanks, jsmitfl. 315RLS, we have gas stove, dryer, and city water. If I buy one, if not too expensive, it would be nice for lights and TV for those few times it happens, plus the freezer. Usually, if you lose power, its because of storms. That's usually when it would be nice to see what's happening.

Gerry,
We had the 3600/4000 installed on our new Everest (sister to Montana) and love it. We also use to have the honda, which we liked, but this is much nicer (and more $).
The new Onans come with a command module that will turn on the generator if the battery gets too low (subject to quiet hours you can input) along with a few other nice features. It is very nice to have the set up so DW can simply push a button in the rig and you have full power. Ours did cost around 5k but our rig was generator ready.
You can go cheaper, but you can't go much easier (we do boon dock freqently).

BillyRay,
If you got one of the newer MicroQuiet for $3,100, you did very well. Camping world (obviously, not the cheapest place) has the MicroQuiet 3600 for $2,738, plus you need to build a metal structure around the generator, put in a remote switch, transfer switch, exhaust system, etc. The dealer quoted around $5k, but not sure how much I actually paid as it was part of our deal.
