New pricing of our Montana's?

Hopefully ok and in the correct section.

We just ordered a 3120rl 2 months ago. Research shows a MSRP of 81,053 on the Montana website. We had seen models listed at our dealer for $69,999 on just basic models, no additional options, one they dropped to 64,999 due to slight imperfections.

I had done some used model & lots of new model online searches, and noticed midwest ( montana/ wy) prices were a couple thousand less listed pricing I had seen, so I knew California was closer to MSRP than some places, but I never saw any listed anywhere for $52,000.

I have seen on other Montana groups folks discussing pricing on 2020 used model with an asking price of $49k, and a few folks STATING they bought the same model for $52k.

Assuming this is the base price before taxes, delivery, etc, how they heck are folks actually getting a new Montana for close to $50k ? I have searched brokerages, cheapest price on new Montana's by model, and have never seen anything below $64k. And if these have any options, they really got a blowout price. I will say s freind said he bought a vehicle for a blowout price, and after a few years started "remembering" with his wife's input, his price was quite a bit higher than his story was, lol.

Are these folks really good negotiators, or buying RV's that have been on the lot a long time, etc?

Just curious how bad we got stung, lol

Thanks

Allen

In normal times, you should be able to get at least 30% off of list. In 2012, our rig listed for about 85,000, but we got it for $53,000, of course it was toward the end of the model year, but there is quite a large markup on most of these RV’s. So, all this to say, don’t be afraid to shop around, even way out from your location.

Yea, I just realized I should state, I am not trying to and hope it doesn't, become a "I got a better deal than you" post.

And I figured markup is probably a decent $. Plus some stated the additional $k for longer distance from the factory are for transportation costs make sense.

And I am sure if sales are like some say, getting the best price might not be as much when sales are like they seem to be.

Prices of all RVs have increased considerably in the last year. From the time we started looking in Feb. 2020 till until we purchased in October the prices on our 294RL went up about $5000, and now I am seeing dealers advertising the same model 5th wheel for up to $12,000 more than we paid. We found that the dealers almost always advertise below list, although due to supply and demand they are not very flexible on their advertised prices.

We shopped nationwide useing RV Trader and RVT, since the prices in our area were much higher than other areas. We ended up traveling about 300 miles across the state to purchase. We got ours for about $4000 less than we could get it locally, after working with local dealers to find out their best price.

Interesting about the increase, I know plywood increased about 40% in my area since Feb 2020.

Thank you for your experience

Allen prices for all building material has really increased. The last price I’ve seen on 1/2 inch OSB is $35 and an 8 foot stud is $11.

Wow Lynwood
$11 for a stud, glad I save old 2x4's that don't twist. I noticed most new lumber needs to be installed before it turns into a pretzle.

Allen,

Once we are back in a post COVID world, I would not be surprised to see some good deals as folks unload RVs.

Most people use an RV 4 times the first year and 3 times the second and by the fourth year they are tired of the payment and are looking to sell it. If you are looking for a camper good times are almost here.

Yes
I believe there will be lots of rigs being sold IF this ever gets back to normal.

And I wanted to boost the economy by purchasing at the worst time also, lol.

There was a news story a couple days ago about the costs of remodeling. Said some building materials are up as much as 270% over the last year due to plant closings, raw material shortage, etc. and suggesting people planning such might wait a while. I would guess that also has a significant effect on RV prices.

Hemi, are the prices you're using apples to apples? Same model/features-ish? Could they also be Montana vs High Country? The High Country's will likely go for $50-55k, or higher depending on locale and model, while the Montana's would be a good deal at mid to upper 60's and up. Prices are higher here on the West Coast simply due to shipping greater distances. Mid West prices typically seem to be the best on paper.

Thanks again for the posts

Yes, it very well could be folks not being on track with correct information, the seller was supposed to be the same model and year but I am suspecting the $52k guy might be fibbing a little, after more research and replies here.

Just disappointed I didn't push a little more on the price, like I used to do for automobiles, but maybe I didn't leave much to be negotiated after all.

In normal times you should get 25-30% off msrp. Got 30% off mine In October 2020 but they didn’t want it sitting till next spring and I went 1000 miles to fetch it. I would not expect that deal now.

LOL

Thanks Lynwood, I also buy American made quality products from friends companies

And my wife and I got our second dose of Moderna last night, and we both feel like crap. I've got a headache like my "before retirement" migraines, the wife has chills and a fever. I should be out desuckering our vineyard, but it can wait.

Just following my trusty governments suggestions before it's mandated

He probably isn't fibbing I made a offer on a Montana 2016 that MSRP was $89,895 . My offer was $52,000 out the door, no other fees, no down payment, not great credit. So sometimes the buyer wins.
