Painting the kitchen sink

Has anyone painted or done anything to "freshen up" their kitchen sink? Ours looks horrible.

I'm looking for suggestions on what type of pain to use or if there is some "epoxy" that I should use. It's a 2010 Mountaineer and white is "all gone from within the sink".

I don't know of any paint that would hold up in a sink. Not knowing the material your sink is made from (plastic, porcelain, metal), the only thing "I" can think of is to have the sink reglazed. That would be the same process that is used for reglazing a bathtub.

Here's a 10 minute video how one method is done. If it works in the bathtub, it should work in a sink just as well.

Several years ago we rented a house where the owner had just had the 50s vintage porcelain tub recoated like the one in the video. It was beautiful...at first. Within a couple of months the new white paint/coating started peeling off in small strips. It was a mess...but it provided added interest and activity to a relaxing hot bath...soak a bit...peel a bit...soak...peel. Maybe others will have better stories/results - but this is our only experience with painting an old tub. It looks great on day 1!

Below is a pic from a 2010 Mountaineer brochure. This looks like a single-piece solid surface sink/counter surround. Is this what you have? If so - paint is probably your only option. This does not look like you could mount a new sink under the countertop.

Oh and by the way - Keystone no longer offers archive brochures for all year models like the have done for all these years. They only offer 2018, 2019, 2020 on the website. Hate to see that change. I found this one thru google.

If you have a stainless steel sink about all you can do is clean it. If you have a plastic sink you can fix it. They are at less a quarter of an inch thick so you can’t hurt it. Get some sand paper, 220 or 180 grit and go to work on it. You cannot sand enough off of it to by hand to hurt it. The most you will sand off of it is a few thousands. If you are worried about hunting it go to a cabinet shop and get a sample of the material. You can probably order a piece on line and try to sand it down. I’m a machinist I have machined a lot of it. After you clean it up with the course paper finish up with some fine park. I’ve done this to our kitchen sink so I’m not guessing.
