This is the reason the 3500hd rides better unloaded than the 2500hd. Otherwise there is no real difference...

If there is no real difference, then why is the payload of a 3500 SRW higher than a 2500?

DQDick, don't know why you would say the spring pack comment is untrue. I happened to own a 2500hd duramax SRW & a 3500hd duramax SRW and they are exactly as I stated above..... The tires are well within the ratings...

All too much focus is opinion on this site from people who believe there set up to be best and have likely never ever driven some of the other set ups...

As someone who has driven both the 2500HD srw towing a 3790RD thousands of miles and the 3500hd srw towing the 3790rd thousands of miles I can state there is little to no difference at all other than the 3500hd rides better without a load on it due in part to the spring set up above.... FACT.

All I can add is that I'm on my third 3500 Dually and none have had a spring pack as you state, but I have also seen 3500 SRW's without overloads. So maybe GM offers different setups/options.

OP's original question is would changing if the pin box would help with bottoming out on bridge abutments and dips. OP states he has a 3720 RL Montana and 2500HD. OP does not state amount of cargo he has and I doubt he know because he has not hit the scale yet. If he is carrying around a box of saltine crackers for cargo and nothing in his tanks, maybe he could get by with adding air to his air bags, but I doubt it. If he is hauling around his house he most likely has a pin weight north of 4000+ lbs. I would never put that kind of weight on a 2500 anything. At that weight nothing is going to help but a bigger truck. And how do I know this? I drag my house around using the same fifth wheel.

My second concern would be that the 2500 is a '18. Warranty issues would be a concern on a newer truck, frame issues, front end etc. All from being over weight. Just because you CAN pull it, does not mean you SHOULD.

OP do yourself a favor, weight the truck and trailer and make an INFORMED decision.

Pin Box Question

First we need to know the information on your truck such as F150, F250 or F350. I have an F250 Diesel and added an extra leaf spring to the rear suspension system which basically gives me an F350 truck. I have a 2015 Montana 3611RL and I don't have a problem bottoming out. My Montana came with the MORyde pin box which helps with the chucking back and forth on highways with bad joints. Bottoming out comes from bouncing up and down which needs a stiffer suspension system in the tow vehicle. So to answer your question, to reduce the chucking back and forth the MORyde pin box will take care of that. Air bags or another leave spring in the rear will take care of the bottoming out.

Cushioned pinboxes like a Morryde and others only provide horizontal relief, so no. Since you have airbags, try increasing the psi. My experience is that some roads are so poor that feeling like you're bottoming out occurs frequently. OTOH, you might have too much pin weight for your TV.

More important, your TV might not be tow rated for your trailer. Minimum for a 3720RL would be a 350/3500HD. The 3720RL GVWR is 17,700lbs with a pin weight of 2765lbs.

Air bags might level out your ride, but nothing will increase the GVWR of your TV over what it was when it left the factory floor.

Just my two cents, I Have a 3625RE that I have pulled with a 2500 and 3500 RAM both trucks have air bags and the ride was unacceptable to my bad back so I bought a Curt Q20 hitch and a Trailair pin box which made a big difference in the ride in both trucks.
