Where Are The Happy Montana Owners??

We stopped by the Cracker Barrel in Watertown New York on Monday. A Montana was just pulling in so the wife and I said "Hi" as we were walking by.

Then the wifesaid "How do you like the Montana" I began to back away........

The owner came back..."It's a piece of @#$%@## it leaks like a sieve. They extended the warrenty it still leaks. My brother bought one, his wheels had to be replaced. They want to extend the #@#$%##@ warrenty again. Don't want no warrenty ...I want it fixed. The dealer has this thing more time then I do.....I'm gonna get my attorney....".

I leaned over and wisperd sweetly in the wifes ear "Back away from the Montana owner NOW!!!"

Now I'm gonna think twice before I speak up in a parking lot

doesn't matter what type of rv...they all have problems. I have had more problems with the last two montanas than any other unit I've owned. If it weren't for having to stick with the same dealer (due to problems with our last montana) we would have bought another Holiday Rambler. the only reason we went with montana was the layout of the front livingroom!
Not to say were not happy, because it is a nice unit...I just don't think the quality is there like it could be.

Well today we are in Minneapolis. Tomorrow we will head for Duluth. While the Montana unit we have is not perfect it is a good value for the $$$ we paid. Thus far we are very satisfied with our unit.

It doesn't really matter what you buy, I feel that the quality has since gone away from just about everything. Items keep getting more and more expensive while the quality keeps going down hill. You buy expensive things over cheap because they are suppose to be better but not always so. It's just the way the market is now adays and there isn't anything we can do about it.

We too like our Montana and will most likely buy another one when we go with a different unit. That is if we like the floor plan since they keep changing them.

We love ours, and yes, we have had a few warranty issues. Had warranty issues with the prior unit as well (a TT, not a Montana TT), but once they were addressed we had a LOT of wonderful years of RVing in that TT. Expect the same to happen with the Montana.

I know where that is. Have a wonderful time at the MOA and the casino, I'm guessing you are going to Mystic Lake. That place is HUGE and very nice.

I'm in between St. Paul and MPLS, about 40 minutes from Shakopee....

Sounds to me like the person you encountered had a personal problem as well as a RV problem. I agree with many of you that you will encounter problems with any product you purchase. The key is to get them fixed in the allotted time.

Sorry you had to meet such a grump. Ted and I are going to one of our favorite areas (Moab, Utah) and the last time there were at least 5 5th wheel trailers in the small trailer park. If that is so this time, I plan to talk to some of them and see if they are aware of this site.

We also love our Montana , we had the kitchen slide leak but is was our fault. It seems like when we ran the slides out the seal on the kitchen slide got turned backwards, after we fixed that no more leak.

I have had a TT for 30 years untill I got my Montana 5th wheel, and every one of the RV's have had some sort of problem at one time or another. Take care of the important stuff when in warranty and deal with the things as they come up after the warranty. I like to fix things right away when I find the problem that way it will not become a much bigger problem later on. I feel that the price we pay for our rigs is not the least and certainly not the most expensive so the quality of the materials have to be average and we should expect to have to deal with something from time to time. I agree that an extendend warranty will not fix the problem, but at least they are covering the expense of the repair after the original warranty has expired, that says a lot for the dealer and manufacture in my opinon.

Well said DHenry. Our experience has been much the same as yours. I remember a tent we had in our younger days--leaked like a sieve but we still went camping and had a ball. The VW lost its heat at age 3 yrs--but we continued to drive it in upstate NY winters because the fix was more than we could afford and we weren't going to give up the camping possibility. The RoadTrek had problems with its frig--took the dealer five tries to get it right. We won't even bore you with the problems of the 22 stick built homes we have lived in over the years. Think that often MOC can be the place for the squeaky wheels--and we include ourselves! That said, we are happy with our Montana and with our dealer; even though they have made some boners they have worked hard to fix 'em. If you ask us today--yes we would buy another--if they have a good plan available and a dealer we can count on. And if ANY of you have a 5er that has been absolutely trouble free and which you have never had a problem with or had to do maintainence on or had to replace a broken part of--PLEASE LET US ALL KNOW! Anything with moving parts is going to eventually wear out--us included. Just hoping that it will be later rather than sooner. Happy and safe travels to all.

You gotta be kiddin me!! We missed ya again. We drove past that Cracker Barrel Monday AM on our way to the Home Depot in back of the restaurant. We were there around 10:30AM, wish I'd known you were there.

We purchased our 1st and only Montana 1 year ago this coming weekend and other than a shower door sagging we have had NO other problems. I would definately buy another.

We hit the place at 11.15 exactly. We stood in the parking lot and watched the Montana park in case it was you folks. Sooner or later we just gotta get together.

We couldn't get a table for 20 minutes so we went over to Home Depot. The place was in such a state of dissarray they couldn't locate their stock. We went back over to Lowes to buy all our plumbing & hardware.

Well we probably won't be seeing you in New York as we are pulling out of Black Lake tomorrow AM and heading to the RV show in Harrisburg for Thursday. Starting Friday we will be making our way towards Indiana and the MOC rally. After the rally we will start heading south and Florida by October/November.

I for one am glad this thread came up. After having had 6 travel trailers over the years, and now our Montana 5th wheeler, I have had some experience with RV's. The first two travel trailers were used units, so all of the bugs had been resolved (of course those were back in the 1970's when there were no such things as slideouts and all the other mechanicals that are present now. Our 4 Prowlers were all new, and the first two never had to go back to the dealer for warranty issues. The 5th one was totalled along with our suburban the first trip out when the chain for the torsion leveler/stabilizer broke and caused us to spin out and roll over, so we never had a chance to find out about any issues. Or last Prowler had a few warranty issues, primarily fit an finish items that were quickly taken care of by the dealer.

Now to our Montana. Yes, we did have some warranty items to deal with, some of them being very minor fit and finish items. Others were more serious, but only one of the other items (the roof) was really a Montana problem. All the rest were problems caused by poor quality control of the vendors supplying Montana (Magic Chef, Suburban, Alko).
Unfortunately, quality control is more of a problem now in our society than many times previously, but much of that is our own doing. Most of us do comparative PRICE shopping rather than comparative QUALITY shopping whether it is for an RV, an auto, a house, etc. We are happy with our Montana, and have been well served by our dealer taking care of the warranty items. When I think of all the mechanicals that go into a unit like a fifth wheel, and the kind of roads we often travel (another isssue I won't address), it is a wonder they hold up so well. We have had ours just over a year and have put on somewhat over 12,000 miles. Soooo... after all this... I will just put on a happy face! (sorry for the lenghty note)

Mine has more than it's fair share of problems but Keystone is stepping up and taking care of things. My unit will go back to the Factory for the second time this fall for repairs.

My parents have a $100k plus Fleetwood MH and it has been back to the Factory twice along with a list of dealer repairs. They too will stand behind their product.

The truth of the matter is everything You buy is CRAP, no matter who's brand it is. What You need is someone who will stand behind the CRAP, and service the CRAP.

If You built something to really last it would be too heavy to move around.
