Hub Temp

I've been a little reluctant to ask this question because I figure it should be self evident but . . . . . Where exactly do you point the infrared gun to check the hub temps? My rims were transferred from the previous SOB 5 wheel with G614's and have a plastic cap with a removable plastic plug to get at the grease fitting. Not sure if I should remove the plug or is there someplace on the inside, under the trailer, to test? Mighty MOC help would've be appreciated

Your lug nuts are usually the only exposed metal without removing something. I can attest to the fact that lug nuts transfer hub heat extremely well. I've changed many a tire on an emergency vehicle with a flat after running hot. Those lug nuts will slide right through your fingers.

Unless you're using one of the pinpoint restaurant type just pointing it at the hub should tell you. It should get it and they rim and lug nuts around it. At least with mine, I don't have to be real close.

Mine has the same cover yours has. I just point it at the hub cover and nearby wheel area in addition to the tires. I don't look for absolute temperatures. I look for significant differences between the different wheels and tires.

I carry the Harbor Freight IR temp gun. Around the lug nut area is where I shoot. I also have the TST 507RV tire monitors and it shows both the tire pressure and temp.

You might look through the spokes, but as said earlier any part of hub or lugs or metal around rubber plug.
