8.1 gas 3500 GMC

WE are fulltiming in our '09 Montana 3400RL 5th wheel. We have been at a KOA for a couple of years now. Not long till we retire and go on the road. I have a GMC 3500 crew cab long bed with 8.1 gas and a allison transmittion. Any one with this combo. How does it handle the job, I have no intention of getting another truck for a long time just looking for a little insight as what to expect. W have made a few short trips with rig but usually travel by motorcycle. Thanks

the 8.1 will handle the task with ease.the only difference is mileage and a little less power when in the moutains .the diesels will pull better in higher alitudes.

I'll add...I have 4:10s towing=7-9MPG, Empty=12-14. I do try and keep my speeds at the 2000-2200RPM range, mainly for better mileage. I weight less then you, but the 8.1 does pretty good in the mountains.

As a side note, as you drive more and more you 'learn' tricks the really can help the gasser pull.

Hope this helps.
