I have read this debate for several years, you will never convince 3/4 owners there is a difference. Add a spring or a air bag and you have a instant 1 ton truck. GM has been riping me off for a long time. I'm at the point of not commenting on this subject. Because when you do give your opinion it offends someone. If a person is happy with a 3/4 ton fine. Most people don't keep one long enough to have major problems. However thats the biggest reason I want buy a used truck. I wonder if you could add a spring and air bag to a 1/2 ton would I have a 3/4 ton??? GBY...

I didn't say adding air bags would make my F250 an F350. I was simply pointing out the differences. Don't worry though, I tow a Mountaineer trailer, so I likely have significantly more truck for my load than most folks towing 5ers with an F350.

I own a 2008 Ford F250 Super Duty diesel with the camper package. It has the identical engine, transmission, axles, tires, springs and stabilizer bar as the F350. Apparently the difference between the F250 and F350 is the price, weight sticker and the spacers that raise the rear end of the F350 two inches. If necessary, I'll add air bags to compensate for the spacers

Ford has ripped me off and puts false information on their "build your own truck" site I want my money back.

They tell me the 08 F-250 has a max payload of 2280lbs and a GVWR of 10000lbs. while my dually that I was duped into buying has a max payload of 4830 and a GVWR of 13,000lbs.. when there is really no difference between them.. Lier, lier, pants on fire Ford..

The dual rear wheels obviously make a difference in payload.

My F250 has the overload leaf springs, eight-lug wheels, LT275/70R18E OWL all-terrain tires, 6.4 liter dual turbo diesel, 3.73 ratio limited slip axle, etc. Other than platitudes, can someone please explain what accounts for the different payload numbers between a SRW F250 and F350?

Not being a expert and the only difference between the two being two extra tires on the rear..My guess would be the difference is the two extra tires on the rear??? hummmm..why don't they just make a dual wheel drive 3/4 ton????Why bother with the 1 ton??? I think we are on to something here..

It would be interesting to find out, my guess is that a squad of mechanical engineers with PhDs say it's so, therefore it is...and they have a stack of documents 5" thick to back it up.

It's the armor plate I'm looking for so I can hide from all them 3/4 tonners ready to strangle me!

That is quite a find. I'm thinking 2 - tone pearl drab green and sand!

I haven't read all posts in this very long thread but don't believe anyone was saying adding suspension to an F250 makes it the equivalent of an F350 dually. Those references are always to an F350 single rear wheel. And the difference is in the rear suspension. That's a fact. Period. Do the homework. Go talk to the parts people. Talk to the service people. Talk to a Ford engineer. I have. Period.
