Consumer Reports Truck Ratings

I just read the latest Consumer Reports ratings of gas- and diesel- engined trucks. I was disappointed that I didn't see the Volvo in there anywhere. Off the scale, I guess. Well, the less controversy, the better.

Consumer Reports is often misleading. Take it with a grain of salt.

Ford came out much better than the rest Bingo - they were just paid to say something else - hahahahahaha!

Actually there is no point in looking. I'm sure my truck is a black circle with average repairs costs higher than a Boeing 767. I already tow the absolute worst and unsafe trailer in the world according to RV Guide.

It is all irrelevent anyway, but I do get enjoyment when we start one of the MY TRUCK IS BETTER THAN YOUR TRUCK threads. I know it drives the administrator's nuts, but that just adds to the suspense of how long it can go on!!!!! I don't think we will all rush out in the morning and start looking for new trucks based on what Consumer Reports says, but it would be interesting reading.....besides DW is asleep on the couch, it's too early to go to bed....and I am bored while stuck at the stick house. LOL!!!

A voice of reason and discernment intercedes hoping to quell us kids!!! Thanks Orv (there is no sarcasm intended there either), I agree but like I always say...a little fun doesn't hurt now and then. I like apples better than oranges!!!! Have no preference on trucks, other than there are three vehicles that start with C sitting out front. See, I avoided that pretty well......NOT!!

Far be it for me as a firefighter to stir the embers and fan them into flames of passion, but sometimes I just can't help it. It is nice to see the trucks compared by a reasonably consistent set of standards that are reproducible in language that is not written by the manufacturers.

They tested the Toyota Tundra, and 1/2 and 3/4 ton versions of the big three, both gas and diesel, all 4WD. The results were remarkably consistent. In fact, pretty much what you'd expect from reading the forum. It really sounds like the trucks have improved a lot over the years, but there's still a lot of room for the mfrs to tout how much better next year's model is than last year's, or their competitors'.

Most notable, for me anyway, is that none of the trucks get high ratings (heck, they don't even get AVERAGE ratings) for their braking capability. We all know what the ride is like, especially for the 3/4 ton and above models.

All in all, to mollify some who immediately take exception to CR, they were more complimentary than I expected. That ought to dampen the flames.

I don't know where they got some of their figures. They show the Silverado 3/4 ton with the D/A as having a maximum tow rating of 9800. The brochure shows all those models with a ball hitch rating of 13000.
