RV Fire

We were out with our family at Pilot Knoll Campground on Lake Lewisville near Dallas this past weekend. Around 5:30AM Monday morning our dog woke us up because he heard some commotion near us. A relatively new Denali 5th wheel was on fire 2 sites away from us. Thankfully the man and wife got out because they smelled "something". The coach was a complete loss. They think, not official, that it started by the refrigerator. We were told that they had been having problems with the frig over the past days not cooling. Lesson is get it fixed immediately.

I called Mac the Fire Guy today, because I heard about him from this forum and he walked me through some ideas of what I can do to prevent and fight fires in our Montana. I will be ordering the system that is designed for the Norcold refrigerator 1210 in our unit. I know that most of you have heard about the issues with this unit but if you have not take the time to watch his videos at macthefireguy.com.

Scary thing seeing this happen to a unit and it makes you think about what I can do minimize my risks. My Mom and Dad lost a Holiday Rambler motorhome sitting in their driveway to a "refrigerator" fire. I see that Mac is speaking at the National Rally this year and if we are fortunate enough to attend we will attend his talk. Take Care out there. Thanks to those that have discussed this topic on this forum previously.

Always good to bring this issue to the forefront.

Mac is a great guy and have had him at several of the MOC Fall Rallies and his demos are nothing to sneeze at! He knows his stuff and a great guy to talk to. What national Rally were you talking about that he is speaking at?

Saw Mac at our first National Rally and bought several fire extinguishers and worked out a plan to mount a ladder in our bedroom escape window (don't know if we can use it being as old and crippled as we are but at least it's there and we can probably use it if we're scared enough). Then at an Escapee National Rally bought the automatic extinguisher for behind the refrigerator. Not sorry at all to have given him the business.
