Allison information

For GM owners with Allison transmissions. If you are a DIY or at least like to manage your maintenance, here is a long but informative forum thread: http://www.duramaxforum.com/forum/tr...-transynd.html

I'm a firm believer in synthetic oils and have had Trans Syn in our Allison since 25,000 miles

Since around 2007 model year when Dexron VI was introduced, GM vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions come with synthetic transmission fluid (Dexron VI) installed from the factory.

Dexron VI is a blend, not a full synthetic like Transynd and probably doesn't offer the extended service intervals of Transynd

I used the process discussed in this article on my 2008 GMC replacing the factory fluid with the TranSynd and noticed a world of difference in the hard shifting that I had previously experienced with my Allison transmission.

Something else if you replace your own spin on filter. Be aware there is a doughnut shaped magnet on the filter. Some times it sticks to transmission and some times it sticks to the filter. Stuck to transmission no problem but there have been a lot of magnets thrown away when stuck to filter.

Transynd, when properly tested, will last 300,000 miles. Those interested in getting some good info on the Allison, should join www.irv2.com. There is a retired Allison engineer, Tom Johnson, who is a regular poster on the Allison forum and has some very good information.
