Had 2 sets of BFG's on our truck. The first set we had tread seperation on 3 tires, the second,Commercial TA's, the tread seperated, flew off and caused $1,200 damage to the truck

I haven't read or heard anything about problems with the BFG Commercial T/A. If I do I will be sure to let you all know. As Bingo said, "all brands have isolated instances of failures".

DonandJudy_12, Our tires are 215/85/16's. Michelin has XPS Traction, XPS Rib, LTX M/S2 and LTX A/T2 tires for this size. Our local GMC dealer has a decent price on the Transforce's and they've been pretty good, so far, with other issues.

The Michelin LTX M/S-2 has the highest mileage rating at 70,000 miles with a limited treadwear warranty to back it up. The LTX A/T-2 is a 65,000 mile tire that offers a little more traction than the M/S-2. They call it an all terrain tread, but their idea of all terrain and mine are miles apart. The XPS Rib is an all steel constructed tire rated for 60,000 miles. It is extremely durable, strictly highway, and very expensive. The XPS Traction is also an all steel constructed tire like the XPS Rib. It is a 50,000 mile tire, has great traction in mud and snow, is extremely durable, and extremely expensive. If you're thinking you may want an all steel tire but don't like the Michelin price, the Bridgestone Duravis R250 would be a great option.
Assuming the majority of your driving is on pavement, here is a list of tires I would recommend. They are in order of highest mileage, and my personal preference first. The price is what they are going for in my area, mounted and balanced, each.
1. Michelin LTX M/S-2 - 70,000 miles - $230.00
2. Michelin LTX A/T-2 - 65,000 miles - $228.00
3. Bridgestone Duravis R250 - 60,000 miles - $249.00
4. Michelin XPS Rib - 60,000 miles - $304.00
5. Firestone Transforce H/T - 50,000 miles - $170.00
6. BF Goodrich Commercial T/A - 50,000 miles - $190.00
7. Uniroyal Laredo HD/H - 50,000 miles - $180.00
There are several other manufacturers offering quality tires, like the Yokohama mentioned by kdeiss, Toyo, Cooper, Goodyear, and more. Being a Michelin/BFG, Brdgestone/Firestone, and Continental/General dealer I don't have the other folks' information at my fingertips tonight, but I will look it up tomorrow if you would like.
