Hydraulics Again

We had the pump and small slide cylinder changed at the beginning of May last year. On the way to Quartzite I was traveling between Gilroy, CA and I-5 I noticed the slides were out about 3". I had to stop every so often to pull them in. CW in Bakersfield put me in right away and checked it out. They said the check valve was stuck and if I kept the valves turned off I would be able to complete the trip and get it fixed when I got home. It was a 2 week wait for parts. The large slide still creped out so I used a slide lock to get home. It is now at our dealer for repair and it should be under the 5 yr. Lippert warranty to change out the pump and cylinder.

Don & Mary Ann,
Good to see you at the "Q". If I remember right, you have been having this problem for a while now. Keep us posted on this... we have been having the same issue with ours off and on. The tech at the service center we took it to (Foley/Camping World in Burlington, WA) before our trip to Quartzsite, told me they didn't even have the equipment they needed to check if the system is holding pressure or not We are still having the same problems but, fortunately shutting the valves while on the road has kept the slides from creeping out.... so far. I will be taking it back after the first of the month for this and a couple of other issues. It still baffles me they don't have the proper equipment to check this. The next closest service center is another 180+ miles away in Tacoma (Tacoma RV)! I have heard nothing but GOOD things about them though as apposed to the one in Burlington!!!!
Jack & Dave

I heard Tacoma RV is very good. I know Larry & Gloria (embraceatrend) had problems with Burlington CW also. It doesn't take special equipment to check out the Hydraulics. I never seen special eqipment in the 30 yrs. that I was a HD Mechanic.

Don,
The "special equipment" the tech spoke of was simply a set of gauges to check if the system is holding pressure. I am having a problem with fluid leaking back into the reservoir with the slides retracted when the valves left in the normal or open position. And the slides creep out while traveling. If I close the valves the fluid level in the reservoir doesn't change and the slides don't creep out during travel. Tells me fluid is leaking past something somewhere.
Jack

It is ether the check valve in the pump or the cylinders bypassing. Most likely the check valve if both slides are coming out. To check the cylinders you pull off one end of the return line at the pump and put in a bucket and let it drain then apply pressure to the other side of the cylinder and if there is quite a bit of oil coming out of the return hose the cylinder packing is gone (there will be a small amount of oil coming out of the hose) do each cylinder one at a time.

Jack,

Our RV came from Tacoma RV. We don't have any complaints with them. Hear lots of bad things about Foley. We just lucked out that Tacoma RV was closer to where we lived.

Let us know how it goes in Tacoma; inquiring minds gotta know.

Robbie,
We'll be taking it back to CW/Foley again in a couple of weeks....I like sticking needles in my eye too!!! I'll give them one more try before I end up doing the drive to Tacoma. I'll let you know what happens. We are camping at the Swinomish Casino in Anacortes today through Monday...2 for 1 winter rates, plus it is where Dave works so it is a short commute to work for him.
Take care and travel safe,
Jack
