Presure reg for city water hookup
Just got my 3400RL and was wondering if the water system was good enough to handle city water hook-up preasure or do I need to put a flow regulator on the hose before it comes into the Monty? Had an older trailer built in the 70's and that one had to have a regulator on it.

I would advise a pressure regulator at all times. There are various ones and some recommend up to 60 psi. I use a brass high-flow pre-set at 45-50 psi. Others use variable regulators with guages.

I don't really know if the water system is good enough to handle city water pressure without a pressure regulator, and don't plan on finding out. We always use one.

Muddflapp,
Like the others we always use a pressure regulator. We like the brass one too.

We have a pressure gauge and a pressure regulator. If the park pressure is below 60psi we don't use the pressure regulator, if above we do. We also have and like the brass regulator. As for if the system can handle city pressure, if you look at your water lines they are marked 160psi...but most of us use the regulators.

We have a brass one and always use it. We put it on the faucet so the hose to the trailer is safe too.

This is my system
The only proplem with the brass or plastic regulators is you have no idea when they fail and you only get 40 to 50 psi when they do work. Mine is set at 60 psi. I have a gauge to show me incoming and out going pressure. If need be I can adjust the regulator up or down. This system is nearly fool proof.
BUT right now I don't have the regulator in use and I have had 80 psi coming in for the past 5 days without any problems AS YET.

Just like the elec hookups, you get surges from fellow campers.
I believe it's a good idea to protect yourselves in all areas.
As was mentioned, flow is an important feature of a regulator.
Those little guys at CW seem to cut back on the flow from what I have read on these forums, so we made a system along the lines that Glenn uses for water pressure. I know he also runs filters as well, and those can also effect flow.
It is interesting to take a look at your pressure gauges (as well as the voltage gauge) in the morning when people are active with breakfast and showers. It moves around more that you might think.

I use an adjustable brass regulator that I got from http://www.rvwaterfilterstore.com/Pr...Regulators.htm. I like being able to SEE what my pressure is before it goes into the Monty and IF it is high, be able to back it down somewhat. I bought the N55BG for $59.95. I also run two jumbo filters (5-micron reusable sediment cartridge and CBC-BB .5 micron cartridge) along with an undersink everpure just for drinking. Overkill???? Who really knows. Don't like to carry bottled drinking water.
