RV Memberships

We probable belong to too many Rv Clubs and we may drop a couple of them after this year. We paid quite a bit upfront, but considering we will be full timing a long time it will way more than pay for itself. We belong to KM resorts (which is pretty much just for Wash. State. We stay for free up to two weeks at any of the 8 KM parks in Washington. Then out for a week and then you can come back. They threw in ROD (Resorts of Distinction) and it have proven to be great. They have resorts all over the country. We can travel and stay at any of these resorts for free up to 2 weeks twice a year. Also they threw in AOR (6 bucks a night) and RPI (8 bucks a night). We also got NACC(usually 10-15 bucks a night) with ROD. Just joined Passport recently and have used it 4 or 5 times. Probably by end of the year we will have a good idea of which ones we will Keep. Do most of you use memberships?.......Les

So far we only have Passport America, but I've been looking at Happy Camper (another 50% off club) and need to investigate Coast to Coast. Our best membership is our Golden Age Pass which gives us 50% off Corp of Engineer CGs because we're old. That's not really a club but a nice price break.

PassPort America and Good Sam. We also have Happy Camper but never used it as mostly it's the same campgrounds as PassPort and it costs more. We will not be renewing HC.

Coast to Coast and PA

Total cost $180 a year. Well worth it for us.

Happy Camping

I too have a membership in CA @ Canyon Creek Resort (CCR) and have enjoy it for 15 years. Thru CCR we have 2 other RV Parks in CA and have access into KM Resorts like it was our home park, not been there yet, and have a ROD Plus membership which seems to cover most of my needs. I have access to all the others but found most of the time there is a lot of duplication of RV Park in differant membership. I'm still work'n but enjoy camping 1 or more times a month year round and take 2 or 3 weeks off twice a year and go explore some other places.
Good luck on your chioces....

We have AOR, RPI and Passport America and use them a lot since we are both retired now. Stayed in Va two weeks ago for $8 per night using RPI, the park is usually $20. It doesn't take too many nights at that price to recoup the yearly dues.

We use PassPort, Good Sam, KOA ( for backup), and now TACO (free, 10% discount). While the GS, KOA, & TACO associates probably raise their rates to offset discounts, there probably worth the cost to bring the rates down to reasonable. PA has more than paid for itself many times over, although we are selective about which Passport locations we use..

I need a primer on the initials again. RPI, AOR, any others. I know PPA (or PA). Is there a difference between Golden Age Pass and Golden Access Pass. The latter is what I'm getting at 53 and permanently disabled (shoulder) from the National Park Service. I believe it's good for CoE parks too.

dsprik,
The Golden Age and Golden Access provide the same benefits. They are both good with National Park and Corp of Engineer Parks. The Golden Age is for retirees and the Golden Access is for those of us who are disabled.

The Golden Age/Access Pass gives you 50% off any of the COE or NPS campgrounds, usually averaging around $10.00 per night. The drawback is that you won't get sewer connections or WiFi. The plus side is that you'll be in a very well cared campground in a natural setting. And you might see deer, foxes, turkeys, and armadillos in the wild like we did when we camped just outside Fort Worth.

We use Passport, the price is right but each park as its know limitations, the better parks are crowed and some park are impossible to use. We also are a member to a private park in KY that is CC and will check out CC after retired.

Parrothead,
I picked up a free magazine (120 pages) at the park office here in Corpus Christi, it's called the Texas 2005 RV travel and camping guide. Apparently the Texas Association of Campground Owners (TACO) puts it out. There are also some sites for New Mexico. They offer mostly 10% and some 15% discounts on the daily rate, incentive to stay at their parks. They have some that PA has, but sometimes PA has date restrictions.
