Slideout Repair Estimate

I'm looking for a ruff estimate cost to remove, repair and replace a large Schwintek slideout in 2016 3711FL. Either the H-columns are damaged, or the actual slide box could be skewed, or both. My insurance adjuster thinks it has to be removed completely, and I agree, but he only approved $1,700 on the claim. I've never had this level of work done before, so I don't know if I'm looking at $2K, or 5K, or 10K, and I might want to consider pushing to get it totalled. Thank you.

I don’t know how much it should cost - but for comparison, there is an after market competitor called Vroom Slide Systems out of Arizona. I first read about them on IRV2…evidently there are lots of motor homes that use Schwintek systems on those big full side slides. The Vroom system is similar to Schwintek but looks to be a more substantial design. For reference here is a screen shot from a thread on IRV2 about the cost of Vroom slides…
The other nugget to glean is the project duration…one day. Vroom has to remove the slide box, existing H columns an install their columns and motors. I would think a Schwintek repair would be a one day job also.

Here is a screen shot from a Tiffin forum with costs for big slides…
The costs I found were from threads “pre-inflation” that we are experiencing now.

The dealer repaired my slide in one day with 2 men. Included replacing both top and bottom rails, shoes, gears and rebuilding the bed frame. The labor would have been 2 grand out of warranty. Parts, I'm not sure. $300?

You could go to your dealer and they will give you an estimate. If it’s higher you can take that back to your insurance company.

Thank you for the responses. Just talked to Geico and they assured me they will work with the repair shop, if I can ever get an appt.

FWIW we had our Schwintek bedroom slide replaced with a heavier duty model this spring and the parts were roughly 1200, labor 1760. This was in New Mexico, and it was a complete replacement, rails, frame and all. Our rig is a 2017 Montana 3000RE.

We have the Cable slides on the bedroom unit and the Hydraulic on the Larger living room units... We have had the Large Slide fixed 3 x at a cost of around 6000. The bedroom cable gear box gears stripped... The new unit then was Ripped out of the wall and fixed again.. I really do miss the electric motor driven slide outs....

dfb; any chance you could expand on your slide out problems. Symptoms, actual problems and whatever specifics you have on repair. Your issues sound pretty serious and time consuming not to mention expensive.
thanks
Jack

When we bought the unit the Large and opposing slide would make a POP noise.. Later it would kinda grind.. Finally, the rear of the large slide would move out and the other end would only barely come out... I managed to get the slide back in.. On a trip to coos bay the slide out gear pack broke teeth.. We took it to a repair shop in coos bay and they worked on it all day .... They put a new gear pad in and they had a 'clamp' that went over the rail and teeth that kept the rail from jumping teeth.. After we got it back on the same trip the gearbox for the bedroom cable slide broke.. The same repair place put a new gear box in.. When I got back to the rv park with the trailer the bedroom cable clamps grabbed the new gear box and ripped out of the wall.. After we got home I took the RV to another place and they had to mount a Steel Plate behind the gear box because the screws were stripped out of the frame behind the wall.. Now, we go out on another trip.. We drive about 4 hours and the wife goes to move the Large slide out not noticing the cabinet door behind the slides facia is open.. This time the Slide grabbed the edge of the cabinet door and instead of demolishing the door the Slide went totally sideways breaking the gear pack again.. No place in Tonopah Nevada to fix it... So we drove back to home in Carson City.. Took it to the repair place again.. The bedroom was about 1200 total and the big slide was 1300. then 2400.... The later repair included a much stronger metal frame around the bottom of the slide... It broke again.. The bolt that secures the timing rod to each side broke... I bought a grade 8 bolt... Hopefully this does it... Good Luck on yours...ohn and the Large 5/8 inch bolts used to support the outside of the slide the brackets were bent so. they replaced those too...

dfb, thanks for detailed info. Sounds like listening to slides in & out are very important as well as watching alignment.
