I10 or I 20 in Louisiana

Soon to make the trip fl. To AZ. Both roads have issues but is one better than the other.

I have traveled (towing fifth-wheel) many times from Lafayette to Slidel in Louisiana on I-10/I-12 and have not found it to be so bad.

On the other hand, I have traveled (towing fifth-wheel) many more times on I-20 from Greenwood to past Meridian, MS on I-20. The worst place I can remember is just east of Shreveport. I just slow down. There is a bypass going north around Shreveport which is much better than going through the city. An even worse surface is found in Jackson, MS. You better slow down there.

But my point is: these are specific and limited places. For the most part I-20 across Louisiana is pretty good.

As to whether I-20 or I-10 I choose depending on my destination and campground I want to include along the way.

This is my experience and my opinion.

ADD: But I-20 brings you through NorthEast Texas -- the best part of Texas which many people miss using either I-40 or I-10. Lots of nice places to spend a night or a few days right here in Northeast Texas. Come see us!

We just came across I10 2 weeks ago and all was fine. Most of the construction is at night and the roads are much better now than they were two years ago across Louisiana. A great place to stay along the way is Meaher State Park - Spanish Fort, AL, easy in easy out and beautiful.

I just traveled across I-20 today from Mississippi through Louisiana to US highway 59 in Marshall and the highway was very good. You don't have near as many truckers on I-20 as I-10. You need to take the 220 by-pass loop around Shreveport as that is he roughest part of I-20.
