Exhaust fan over stove!

Was reading the cooking forum and it was mentioned to not forget to open the outside of fan on the rig! So...I asked my husband if that applied to us? He went out to look and sure enough...opened the vent and voila!

Again the MOC forum rules!

Way to go. That's on my trip around the rig after initial setup to check for stabilizers, chocks, vents, and hookups. I can only imagine what would happen if I forgot.

The biggest problem I have is that I have to leap and flip the levers down to loosen each side of the vent. I should add my step ladder to my walkaround so I remember to have it in place instead of having to leap. After all, when we break down camp and I do the walkaround check, I need the step stool to flip the levers back up to keep the flap closed.

I use a screwdriver. It gives me that extra couple of inches of height that I need.

When you walk around the rig, take a walking stick with a finger on it with you. Reach up and pull the levers down, or up which ever applies.

Ours is right outside the door and I can flip the levers while standing inside the rig.

Remove the flap and screen it. Then no worries.

I have one of those small vinyl steps from WalMart I use to reach the vent and use inside to reach the upper cabinets.
I like Jim's screwdriver trick also. I might give that a try. Orv has the best deal, he can reach his.

Most of the time, my kitchen back-scratcher will reach and do the trick of opening and closing the vent flapper thingies.

Some folks have modified the flap so that it can be opened and closed from the inside. I believe that they drilled a small hole and ran a piece of wire to the vent. The wire has to be stiff enough to push the vent open yet flexible enough to pull in and wrap around a screw or whatever to hold it closed.

I hate that fan sooooo much, that I rarely use it, use the MaxAir fan in the kitchen, or the air conditioner.

I really hate that fan!

Too darn noisey and puts snow on the TV as with most of the DC aplinceses, I made a filter out of a big capasitor for my Komfort trailer years ago it worked very good too.

We just leave our vent open all the time. Ours is secured by a rlwhit invention, a clothespin.

We use the Fantastic Vent. The stove fan is very noisy. Read a while back that you can buy a rheostat that controls the fan speed and thus turn it down a bit if needed.

How so?

Edit: OK, now that I have thought about it, I see how. Do you leave it that way in transit? ...and how do you keep bees, yellow Jackets, and bugs out of the fan housing (between the filter and flap) when parked for long stays? I would be afraid of finding a yellow jacket nest in there some day when removing the filter for cleaning!

On my old trailer, the flapper disappeared when I forgot to secure the tabs when we hit the road one time. There is a guy on another forum that makes and sells a sheet metal flapper that is pretty much indestructible, for those times when you forget to latch it down.

On that center bracket, the clothespin can be on either side of the flapper. While traveling, the flapper is closed and while cooking it is open. I'm just lazy, got tired of those little latches.....plus the clothespin is easy to reach without a ladder.

Now, this clothespin is very special item, I know where you can get one pretty cheap for just shipping and handling!

Picture, Robbie? Please?

Also, after reading HamRad's post I may see if perhaps a long, thin bolt would work. I could use a locknut and washers to keep it in place. Just have to figure out if it's doable and, if so, how to secure it closed for travel and secure it open when needed.

Robbie,
I really like the advertisment.

All remember that those little plastic tabs that keep it closed do break very easily, so purchase from RLWHIT one of his invention methods.
