Open Roads Fuel Program - Yes or No?
It's been a while since I've seen discussion on this topic. I was looking into signing up but they get pretty personal in the info they want like SSN and Banking info. Before I give them all of that I thought I'd just ask others who are using the program. Do you feel your info is safe, does it work well, and is the program worth it?
Thanks

Here are just three Threads in the last couple of weeks about the Open Roads program.

They are a reputable company and I feel my info is as safe as any other site that has my bank info. I did open a separate checking account for them to access. The programs works well when you use it. But it is not the solution to end all solutions. When you are not near one of the stations, which offers a good discount (not all do), then local stations (using GasBuddy) are a better choice. Especially if your credit card is giving you 4-5% cash back on fuel purchases.

We use it for times we must use a Truck Stop. We also have the Gas Buddy card that works the same way, it goes through our checking account. We can use it to buy diesel far less then Open Roads most of the time. We do this when we are not hooked up while traveling around between locations.

I Agree with Carl, I also set up the separate checking account for it and another local discount diesel program that does direct withdrawals. Open Roads and that other company are all I use that account for. I use open roads quite often, even when not towing because around our home area, the fuel prices are ridiculously high and the best gas buddy prices are .80 or more above the open roads. We saved quite a bit over the last 4 months traveling around the Southeast. They are a reputable company and have been around a while. I think they are safer than swiping a credit card.

We signed up and used the program for the first time this year and we like it. I like the idea of creating a separate checking account for the card as it creates a control point for access to funds. Happy so far.

We've been using it for a while now, and it's great. Pull into the truck lanes, get to the pump, fill up and when done, off you go. Don't have to go into the store if you don't need anything, and you get a nice discount. We've found for a while now that Loves has the lowest discount compared to the other truck stops, so we use the others. Also, they don't support Pilot Flying J anymore because Goodsam complained due to their discount program with that chain.

Thanks, all. I just went ahead and signed up. Might as well spend less if possible.
We recently returned from a trip to AZ and back to OR. Fuel prices were over $6 in CA (we saw one place at about $7...didn't stop there) but paid $3.99 at one stop in NV. Mostly average was around $4.50 - $5.50.

It’s ok but use a separate account for the funds to be drafted from

Paid $3.53 last week with open roads. That's a great deal here in NY. Keep in mind that the savings is usually less in areas where the "regular" fuel price is more reasonable, but every bit helps.

And always check the price on their site to see who is cheaper. Last summer and fall TA/Petro were about the best, right now looks like Love's might be the best.

Like others, we use Open Roads AND Gas Buddy. We linked our account to our travel money debit card that we use for international travel. Not but just a bit of money stays in that account. We have never had a problem.
Recently I posted a request about whether people using OR had noticed that their local stations are predominantly cheaper. Our nearest OR is $3.075 plus the fee and commission. Passed a local station that is $2.99 this afternoon! WOOHOO!

We use the same two as you guys but get really irritated with the limits on the Gas Buddy card.

Open Roads
I have been using it several years now and never had an issue with charges, etc. you simply have to shop he app to compare prices. In some cases, you can find locals with a better price if you can access the pump lanes with your particular rig. Considering I use a cc for purchasing other than open road purchases which give a 5% rebate versus Open Roads fees/percentage charges, to use OR, it has to be a $.15 plus savings to compare to any local station prices.

Open Roads is NOT always the best option, especially considering the fees. I typically see anywhere from 5-30 cents discount from advertised pricing, but I also have pulled into an Open Roads affiliate, only to see another station across the street with a much better price. Shop around.

Open Road card is the best. Under $3.00 a gal in West Memphis. Just looked again. $2.49 at Speedway

Use in western NY save on average 70 to 80 cents a gallon. Speedway and TA cheaper up here. Used in March to Florida saved around 200 round-trip. I research the app before travel and watch for the best prices. No problems so far.

Recently used Open Roads with the EFS fuel card ($4.09 posted, discount was $3.35). We have a 60gal auxillary tank and 40gal primary. When not using the EFS my card cuts off at $100 and I have to start over again to complete the fill-up. Also, the truck stops pump faster.
