Ford 6.0 egr valve going bad

I have a 2003 ford F-350 4X4 when going up a hill after driving for about a hour, there is a gridding noise under the hood that sounds like a fan hitting something, a lack of power and black smoke puffing out the tail pipe. this will be the 3rd EGR valve in 15000 mi. Is anyone else having the same problems with there TV?

i have a 04 and had the egr valve replaced at about 30000 miles got 60000 on it now and no more trouble yet. i was going to un hook it and a friend of mine who works for ford told me it would void the engine warranty. because it is part of the emission controls.the sound you here is a blow back through the air filter.

20 years ago, you could disable some emissions devices and drive on. On something as new as an 06, you're more than likely going to notice the check engine light coming on and a decrease in fuel mileage. At certain throttle and engine vacuum settings, the EGR allows a small amount of exhaust gas back into the intake charge to be reburned ... supposed to reduce emissions.

Had the same thing happen on my 2004 Chevy duramax. At that time I was running a K&N filter. they replaced the EGR valve under warranty, and then advised me to get rid of the K&N, as they wouldn't cover it a second time. Seems that the intake was drawing some of the oil off of the filter, and plugging up the mass airflo sensor, which through some kind of magic I don't understand casued the EGR valve to go T.U. That is a bottom ogf the gut feeling when you loose power and the smoke starts rolling out! We were vry lucky because I had just fueled up and was still in the fuel bay.
Anyway, after some more research I found that the stock air filter actually flowed more air, cleaner than the KN. go figger!
Have since gotten an 07 durmax chev and the filter in this is Round and bigger.
