Plug in Soft Start

I've seen soft starts that you wire directly in the AC. What about one that just plugs into the RV as a pass through? Anyone try that?

thanks!

I already have a soft start but if I was buying another I would certainly give this a close look and probably buy it. I’m always willing to try new things.

$695 but convenient to hook-up and a plus for the second AC.

For comparison, we paid about $250 in 2023 for the wired in type for the main AC plus about 1 hr to DIY install. We don’t use the bedroom AC much so waited on a second soft start. That model is now running about $99 on Amazon.

The portable unit is probably going to cost about the same as having a tech install two of the direct mount types on the ACs. Another plus is you’ll be able to take the portable one with you if you change RVs.

I like the idea but, for me, that’s a lot of money hanging off the shore power pedestal. I could install the wired ones on both a/c’s in a couple hours for about the same price.

Plug-in Soft Start...

I purchased one early this year, but it didn't deliver until just before us leaving on our trip in July. During our trip, I tried to use it 2-3 times - only to find out that it had would trip the circuit when trying to use our hair dryer or microwave. Their support was very good and told me they had resolved the issue, but I would need to return it and get a replacement. Unfortunately, I also found out during that call that it is not compatible with downstream auto transfer switches - or at least it wasn't compatible yet. So, I returned mine for a refund. They said they were working on the limitations and that they would probably have them resolved within a few months. They refunded my purchase without any issues. I already have soft starts on my two ACs but purchased this unit to help with other high loads. The plug-in type does still work - even if you already have soft starts on your ACs.
