Flashing Running Lights
Well my daughter went in today to pick up their brand now 2016 Montana High Country only to find that whenever they turn on the emergency flashers or either turn signal the running lights also flash.
My daughter and her husband are so bummed. They had to leave it.

Are they sure it is not the wiring in the truck and not the trailer?

Positive it is not the truck. They hooked it up to a light test unit.

Very possibly a bad or missing ground. That can cause that. Not an unusual problem.

It seems like the trailer is wired wrong... the running lights on the trailer are connected to the signal wire which would cause them to flash in unison with the blinker. If the lights for the truck are on and the trailer lights are off, this would be the indicator. This should be an easy fix - the running light and blinker leads on the trailer connector need to be switched.
While dissapointing for Leemedic's daughter, an easy fix at the dealer. The bad news is that if the dealer already has her contract, then most dealers won't be in a hurry to fix this. Hopefully this was discovered duringn the PDI and she did NOT "take ownership" just yet.

This is not going to solve the problem, but I thought it might relate how weird fixes can be sometimes.
At work, I have a police Tahoe that when you use the turn signals or step on the brake, the map lights flash. Thinking it was something to do with the up fitter and associated wiring, I wasn't looking forward to diagnosing this one. There is actually a technical service bulletin to replace the map light bulbs(LED) with updated bulbs. How long do you think a technician worked to figure that one out!

My first thought would be a ground problem as lack of good ground can cause all kinds of weird problems. Also I have found a bad bulb can cause the same problem. Have dealt with both when I use to work on semi trucks and trailers. Hopefully your dealer will figure it out quickly.

Sounds like a bad or loose ground on the trailer no big deal!

An incorrectly assembled plug on the trailer. All it takes is a couple strands of the wire touching another terminal.
