Rough road in Virginia
Traveling north on I95 bypass around Richmond Va 5th wheel 34rl sets up a severe bounce that I have never experienced before. This a
was not a "sway" or fishtailing but a vertical bounce of increasing intensity.Shocks and suspension fine on Ford f350 diesel.(the bouncing is at the 5th wheel hitch area)
I think this is fault of the road rather than mechanical problem with my rig
I would like to ask if others have noticed this and can someone tell me what mile marker this is in Va
This has happened a couple of times at the same location but I never note the mile marker at he time (too flustered)

It could be a harmonic-type undulation (usually associated with concrete roads) that can usually be remedied by a change in speed. WV Turnpike between Charleston and Beckley is very good at that and slowing down (never tried speeding up) usually brings the bouncing to an end. Just thinking out loud based on our experience.

Then you might wanna avoid traveling in any southern California interstate or route in any of the major cities (Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco and a few parts of Sacramento). The concrete ones are ALL like that, but then listen to all the complaints as Cal-Trans tries to fix the roads, too (Gee, wonder why they repave with asfault?). What a bunch of whiners we are.

We have had that same problem many times, but only north bound. Seems to be near the southern end of the by pass. Tried slowing down, speeding up and also bypassing the bypass! Going through downtown Richmond was easier than that bouncing!

You went over a bridge that is south of the bypass around Richmond going north. We have it marked on our GPS. If you slow down to 50MPH, it doesn't oscolate. Bingo is right, it's a harmonic undulation and going 60MPH plus will loosen your teeth.

We have had harmonic undulation there also, very bad. Larry, we have the Moryde pin box and it makes no difference.

You were on I-295 bypass. There are a couple of areas to slow down in VA traveling north. One on I-95 mile marker 17 and the area you mentioned between mile markers 22-28 at bridges and overpasses.

Ohhhhh so much I would like to say about I-95 / 295. Simply.....avoid.
Guess that's why we live in SW Virginia.
Bingo, you are right about I-77 too

They have been replacing most of the bridge sections on I95 in Richmond, my husband runs crane and has been doing the bridge sections there for the past year......it will be good when its all done not sure if that is the same location where you were going through though.

Bet Virginia doesn't need to monitor those roads for speeders

Thanks all for comments. They were all helpful and a special thanks to Jay Bird for the exact location.
It is nice to know my faithful horse is still doing his job.

I drive this route all the time I just stay on 95 thru the City of Richmond unless you are going on I 64 East. Also don't bet on Virginia not monitoring I 95 I 295 for speeders.
