You could be correct, it just does not match up to what I have read. The filter was recommended to me by a professional diesel mechanic that is, as far as I can tell, good at his craft. Before I bought it, I call the local Ford dealer where i bought my TV and was told that fold had a good approximation of the K & N. They did not tell me their filter was better. They did not tell me that it could affect my warranty. It's got me beat.

I have been to my Ford Dealer with both of my TVs equipped with K&Ns and nothing was ever said. You can get too much oil on a filter, but you just have to follow the directions. The oil spray is colored red so you can see when you have coverage; at that point you stop. I do clean mine more often than recommended just because I like to be sure there is no air stoppage. You would be surprised how dirt and bugs are trapped. You definitely need to go with the cold air intake and get ride of that factor filter box.
