According to the GMC website, the 2007 Duramax/Allison combo is now a $7550 option! With diesel fuel at least 50 cents higher than regular gas, I am sure that the "break even" point between the Duramax and 8.1 continues to get higher and higher mileage.

Ford does not yet have the 6.4 Diesel listed on their web site in fact they do not have the F-350 series listed for 07. The 6.0 is still listed as the motor at the price of 5300. My guess it wll be pretty much in line with GM. We need to Wait and see what the new fuels both diesel and gas do to the efficiency of the motors. We are still looking for the diesel in the 08 MY "if" it proves to be cost effective.

Ford is replacing their current 2002-2006 PowerStroke 6.0L engine in favor of a newer 6.4L because of problems with the Navistar/International Diesel engine. It has cost Ford big dollars in warranty repairs and I've read that Ford has stopped honoring warranty claims stating that owner abuse is causing engine problems. I don't see how a leaky fuel injector is caused by poor owner maintenance but Ford is losing market share because of their service policies. This is killing Ford, they're losing customers and have to switch to I believe the Cummins engine hoping to stay in the truck market.

Art,

My original posting was to let everyone know that I had heard the the 7550 cost was going to increase another 4000. That would make it nearly 12k for the option package.

Having done more research on it, I see that the price has not and will not change until it is applied to vehicles that will ship on or after january 1 2007. This is to meet the federally regualted 2007 emmision standards. The equipment will include a diesel particulate filter in the exhaust system, a form of a catalytic converter (although it doesn't seem to be called that) and several other equipment add-ons to meet the 2007 standards.

The option price has not yet changed because the vehicles are not shipping with that equipment yet.

I have to agree with you on your comment regarding the 8.1L gas engine. $12k will buy an aweful lot of gasoline at 2.11 per gallon. If the price increase is that high, it will certainly reduce the number of purchases.
