Myrtle Beach to Bristol TN

We are planning to go from Myrtle Beach to Bristol TN for the race in March.
Goggle maps takes us there via I26 but that looks like some mountain climbing.
I realize that we have to cross the mountains to get there.

Is I26 the best way or is there a way with a little less climbing?

Thanks.

Ed

Another alternative is continuing up I-77 to Wytheville then crossing over to Bristol on I-81. Only one extended hill at Fancy Gap (NC VA border), however it is 40 miles longer going that way. The mountains going into Tennessee on I-26 should not be a problem anyway depending on your TV.

Been I-26 many times. There are 2 climbs going from Asheville NC to the TN line south of Johnson City. Its only a 6 % mostly with about a mile or so of 7%, I dont think you would have any problem, It is a beautiful drive, and easy drive around Asheville. The other way which would be longer, is go I-26 to I-40 west to I-81, which will be about 65 miles to I-81, then north on I-81 right into Bristol Tn. which will be about 75 miles there about. I have been both routes serveral times. I-26 is alot closer.

I live on TN side of mountain between Asheville and Bristol. The route is great, some grade but many many RVs travel every day. Also very scenic.

Speed limit on TN side is 50MPH for several miles and heavily patroled.

Be careful and enjoy the race.
