New RV Damaged in transit

We just purchased a new Montana from Camping World. They had to bring it from a different Camping World branch about 60 mi away. Today they called to say unit arrived but it ran into "debris" on the way and the left fender incurred "cosmetic damage." We have not yet taken possession of this unit and I'm concerned about the extent of the damage. Do we have the right to demand a different unit? To cancel the sale?

Sounds suspiciously like a tire blowout. Does it have Chinese ST tires?

its a new 2016 unit and as far as i know it has the tires that came from the factory. the salesman did tell us to replace the tires ASAP because Keystone skimps in that area.

We are new to all this. Why would they not admit to a blowout?

I agree with you the whole thing is suspicious. Must have been some large/heavy debris to damage the fender.

Quote "We just purchased a new Montana from Camping World." end quote. That would be the first mistake from my experience, but none the less. Surely you didn't sign the dotted line and hand over the money before spending several hours looking the unit over(PDI). I'd been at the lot like yesterday looking it over like Sherlock Holmes before they had a chance to start in on it ... if it was beat all to crap ... they'd have to round up another one. As stated, it sounds suspiciously like a tire blow out which usually take out way more than a fender skirt.

No way I pay tens of thousands of dollars for a damaged and then repaired unit...if they severely discount it....maybe (excitement about a new rig can make one irrational).

I would look under it to see if any damage was done, you can tell. If none let them fix it if it's much damage let em keeps it.

they were not our first choice but due to many limitations we went with them. Especially after finding our desired floor plan. We will be there before opening tomorrow to take a look and take pictures before they start repairs. This is so disappointing

We'd definitely play hardball. It sure sounds like a tire.

For me, no sale. I would want another unit. If you chose to get another unit instead of the damaged one, record the Vin # of the damaged one so they cannot pull any fast ones on you!

Do not let them bully you into a sale.

If the damage is not too bad and can be fully repaired to like new condition, this might be enough leverage to get CW to upgrade the tires to G614's, to compensate you for not getting a new pristine trailer. Evidently, the tires were weakened during delivery, so all would have to be replaced at the very least.

You can be sure that rig was doing 70 plus mph being delivered, I'd be sure to get new tires.

If it was a blow out you should be able to see other damage. It is possible that the driver did hit some debris, such as a tire carcass. If the damage is minimal I would whine about it and ask for some compensation and take the Montana.

Took a look this morning , got there just in time as it was already in the shop. Turns out it wasn't a blow out. Debris hit the back left panel and caused a fist-sized dent. They are going to order a new panel. This was right next to the slide so we have to make sure there was no damage to slide operation like they say.

Thanks for all the replys.

you need to go look at what is what. and yes, you can always refuse to take a damaged trailer.

Glad it wasn't a tire, however these things happen frequently. My boss just bought a new Big Country after changing his mind on a front living Montana after seeing what I am going through with the frame issue. The one he was buying was hit on the lot here in GA and the nose cap busted. He refused that one and they brought him one from Myrtle Beach. As it was coming in the gate, they touched the gate with the left rear side of the new one! They replaced the lower skirt as that was all wrong, but still!!!! Good luck with the rest of the deal. I hope it works out for the best for you.

I hope your boss doesn't go through what you are going through. The same people that made his frame made your frame.
