Entry Door
My wife and I own a 38 foot 2011 Montana. In November of last year, we suffered a "china bomb" on the ODS rear wheel. The tire blew and we road for we don't know how long on the rim. Needless to say, we destroyed the rim. Since then we have installed a set of G614s and had the damage repaired. Now we have discovered cracks in the inner surface of the entry door. One crack runs from the lower corner of the window to the latch. Could the "china bomb" have caused this? Has anyone tried to re-skin the interior of the door?

We have seen those cracks on several units friends here with a 2010 3400 have cracks in the door and have never had a blowout they also start at the window. We had no such problem on our 2006 3400.The entry door on this Big Sky does not seem to fit properly so who knows.

If the tire failure was on the Off-Door-Side(ODS), how would that affect the door frame which is on the Door-Side(DS) of the rig?

OK, I took ODS to mean "opposite driver side" versus Off Door Side. The blow out happened on the same side as the entry door into the camper.

I also have cracks on the inside of the entry door. The unit is a 2011 3400RL. The cracks are horizontal and started with one across the lower window. There are now several. I recently had my dealer look at them and he said this was a new one for him. He took several pictures and sent them to Keystone for their review and comment. I doubt Keystone will offer any repair although I'm sure they have seen this before. The dealer suggested I contact Keystone which I intend to do. The plastic is about 1/32 inch thick with Styrofoam between the inner and outer shells. My take on this is that the material can not take the expansion and contraction in the application of being used on a door.

Sounds like typical stress cracks to me and typical does not mean that it happens all the time and to all. Just like in house construction, when you have settling in the ground below an area of a wall with windows and doors...there will be cracking in the sheetrock over time. In our montys, imagine what the jolts of poor road surfaces, bridge/road junctions, etc do to the unit. And if the cutout for the window in the door wasn't absolutely smooth (ie, had a router caused over-cut), then that jolt will concentrate stress to that area. Just like the cracks in deck stair stringers when they do over-cuts with the circular saw during construction. Is this the cause of your inner door cracking??? Who knows. John
