Surge Protector Location
I am thinking of buying a 50 amp surge protector from Camping World and installing it. Where is the best location for this device. I own a Montana 3000RK with the power cord out the left rear. Should it be located under the plastic belley pan or up front by the batteries? Does it need to be visible? Do you need extra wiring to make the connection? Ayn help would be appreciated.

We mounted ours just inside past the input plug. We didn't see a point of putting it up by the battery.

If I'm not mistaken, you won't find AC up near the batteries unless you have a Generator Prep Package. If you research the forum I think you will find a majority of the permanent installs are right next to the breaker box panel. I'm useing a portable unit chained to the power pole.

How many of you are using the Progressive Industries EMS 50 Amp with or without remote. Any real advantage with remote?

I like the remote because it gives me the telemetry of my power source.
It reads your power status even before the relay engages. It gives me the voltage and current on each leg. It also gives me the error code when things are not correct.
The remote allows the placement of the main unit out of the way. The remote allows the bypass of the EMS safety also.
I had the Camping world surge protector and upgraded to the Progressive Industry.

I installed my surge protector in the front compartment by the battery. It did require additional wiring but I wanted it out of the way and easily available.

I have had the hanging Surge Protector (Portable) on 5 different 5th wheels and have had no issues. The portable is the best for my use. Our 5th wheel has a Energy Management System. The system manages all the power and really takes care when hooked to a 30 amp Electric system. But I just didn't want to hard wire the Surge system. Good Luck with your decision... Happy Trails...

I have the same thing for the same reasons as John. I mounted my remote inside the front closet so that all I have to do is open the closet door to check on my power status. I also printed and taped the error codes to the inside of the door so that if it has an error I have the codes handy right there.
I mounted my HW50C close to the fuse panel. I can access the unit by removing 4 screws from the panel in the cargo bay closest to the fuse panel.
Money well spent!

Put my vote in for the portable. So far no one has swiped it.

I mounted my Progressive Industries EMS 50 Amp below and inside the closet cabnit, behind the vacunm. I also have the remote and it is mounted next to the electric panel below the cloest. I can check the status of the power from the door without going into trailer.
Works for me

We have the Progressive 50 amp with remote. I had the remote installed in the storage area by the television outlets. I chose the remote model so it is easy to hit the By-Pass when I am running on generator power and not electric. Seems to work well.
