Motorcycles

While we cool our heals this winter, well actually it hasn’t been too cold here in western Virginia, in the seventies some in the last week. I was wondering how many of us ride a motorcycle and what do you ride. I have a Honda NC 700 and a new Can Am Ryker. The Can Am is what got me to thinking who and what do we ride. The Can Am is proving to be a fun bike or a geriatric motorcycle as my wife says. The Honda is a great bike for the places I ride on the back roads, dirt roads and the Blueridge Parkway.

92 Suzuki Intruder water cooled, shaft drive and my Dad's 1947 Indian Chief that I have about 90% restored. The right hand shifter, left foot board clutch, and left handlebar throttle takes getting used to.

When I was a kid, 14 or 15 a friend had a 45 Harley with a side shift. I hadn’t thought about it in decades. Then we didn’t need a motorcycle permit or helmet. We would ride it to the motorcycle dealership 15 miles down in town.

Honda 1100 Shadow with Arkansas Razorback theme. Plan to move to the Can Am Bagger soon. We also have a Can Am Maverick X3 side by side and a Can Am jet ski. Really like the Can AMs as you can tell.

We looked hard at going to a Honda Gold Wing Trike but the cost compared to the Can Am just doesn't make sense. As you know you can get the fully tricked out Can Am for about $25K while you will pay more than that for the Gold Wing 2 wheeler that you then have to buy a $10K plus trike kit for. Only down side to the Can Am for us is it is literally 1" too wide fit in the HC381TH basement garage!!!GRRRRRR.....That is why I hope we see a wide body version of the 381 before long. They are far to popular not to see an upgraded version come out by someone.

Had a Goldwing, but DW doesn’t want to ride anymore, so now I have a BMW R1200RT.

I have a HD XR1200X, 08 RWB Honda Intercepter & my favorite all around bike Suzuki DR650. My wife has a BMW650 & a Yamaha XT250. Nothing like taking an enduro into the city, almost as much fun as the dirt.

James there is a spyder that will fit, just not the touring one. By spec the F3 should fit, you could also remove the front wheels & make a skate. I will be trying one in there this spring, it would be a nice option. I had a yellow 08 & it was a blast, should have kept it.

I thought all the Spiders had the same species but they don’t the F3 is actually 2.3 inches narrower the rest of the Spiders. All the Rykers have the same species which are almost identical to the Spiders except for the weight. They weigh close to 300 pounds less, about 620 pounds.

Nice very nice. I’ve looked at them for years. I love the orange colored one. If you are looking for comfort this is the trike for you and another rider. I’d love to have one but it’s not what I need. I need one for dirt roads, back roads and short rides on the Blueridge Parkway.
Lynwood

This morning I googled the specs of the Spiders. I should have looked at my Can Am brochure. It states all the Spiders are the same width 58.9 inches and the Ryker at 59.4 inches. Sorry for the mixup.

Down to four British: 1966 BSA Thunderbolt, 1967 Matchless G15CSR, 1971 Norton Combat Commando, 1972 Norton Flat-tracker. Lightest one is around 370lbs so with carrier, too heavy for the back of the 3791RD.

Thanks. Actually I have a Can Am Ryker Rally. You have a beautiful ‘bike’ but it wouldn’t work for the places and the way I ride. The Spyder Limited is a wonderful luxury touring bike the Riker Rally is fun bike for short rides. Stock it wouldn’t worth for me. The front end was only 4.4 inches off the ground. I raised it up to 6 inches and made handle bar risers to get the handle bars up and back. I raised the back end up and installed floor boards. It’s nice to have a machine shop.
I hope you enjoy yours as muck as I enjoy mine. Be safe. From my riding I think you are safer on them than a real motorcycle.

Its all about that big back seat for the boss lady. If it isn't the touring bagger it won't happen.

I bought a Kawasaki trail bike and she literally rode it for 2 miles and told me to sell it because she didn't like the seat.

Jim the Spider RT Limited has 2 Lazeyboys on it. The back seat has armrest on it and adjustabufloor boards. If she isn’t comfortable on it she will never be comfortable on a motorcycle. Go try one she will like it.
