Refrigerator (Norcold N811) ON and GAS check lights flashing

This morning, I saw that the ON light and GAS check lights were both flashing about 1 time per second.

The refrigerator is a NORCOLD N811 (N811FLT) which came with my 2011 Montana Mountaineer 347THT

I was plugged into 50A shore power, I'm not using propane. The refrigerator had been working great all weekend using electric power, but then I saw this error.

The switch was set to AUTO. I set it to OFF, then back to AUTO, and the flashing lights started again.

According to the Owners Manual, the problem is:

Quote:
FAULT CODES:

Light and Status
ON light and GAS light both
flash about once per second

Meaning
No energy source is available.
AC voltage is not available (or
the refrigerator is in Manual
GAS mode), and the burner did
not ignite or re-ignite

Corrective Actions
If in AUTO mode, check:
- That the refrigerator is plugged into a serviceable outlet.
- That the fuse or circuit breaker of the vehicle is intact.
- That the vehicle generator is operational (if applicable).

In any mode, check:
- That there is not air in the propane gas supply line. See
"Removing air from the propane gas supply lines" section
of this manual.
- That the valve of the propane gas tank(s) is open.
- That the propane gas is at the correct pressure.
- That the manual shut off valve of the refrigerator is open.
- Reset the refrigerator by turning it OFF and then back to
AUTO or GAS mode.
- See your dealer or authorized Norcold Service Center.
It sounds like it's not getting AC power, although the ON and GAS lights are both powered and the interior light is powered, but those may be powered by DC (the battery).

Couple of suggestions I've found:
Check the circuit breaker
Check if a GFC circuit has tripped
Check if there's AC power going to the fridge, open the vent cover on the outside and check if there's power on the AC outlet the fridge plugs into
Check the 8A fuse (F2) on the 120 VAC circuit on the power circuit board
Check the 5A fuse (F1) on the 12 VDC circuit on the power circuit board

Has anyone else had this problem? What was your solution?

Do you have 120 power everywhere else? Have you tried running it on propane?

I'll have to check the next time I take the RV out. It's in storage now. I haven't tried running it on propane yet.

Not sure which 120 VAC circuit breaker the refrigerator is on. I haven't looked yet but my understanding is there is an outlet inside the outside access panel behind the fridge that it plugs into. I will test for 120 VAC there.

I'll first check if any GFCI has tripped.

The schematic shows there's an 8A fuse on the power board which I'll check. If the AC power and fuse checks out, then I'll try running the fridge on propane.

This is an old thread I started in 2019, but the problem came up again this past weekend. I did not take out the RV in 2020 due to campgrounds being shut down.

I just took it out this weekend April 23-25 2021. The fridge was working fine all weekend on 120V ELECTRIC power. I have 120V electric power everywhere else. I noticed this morning that the GAS light on the fridge was illuminated. So both the ON and the GAS light were both lit (not blinking). The fridge seemed to be working fine, there was ice cubes in the ice cube tray in the freezer.

But when I shutoff the propane tank, then both the ON and the GAS lights were blinking.

I switched it to OFF then back to AUTO, and just like my original message, after a few seconds both the ON and the GAS lights were blinking (propane tank is shutoff).

So I'm apparently still having intermittent problems with the fridge operating only on 120V ELECTRIC. It worked fine on electric-only for the past 2 days, but stopped working on electric today.

Any suggestions why, and how to fix this?

From your description it sounds like the refrigerator is operating as designed. Symptoms indicate you lost 120 VAC to the fridge. I would start by checking the outlet with a meter.

I have a 2013 Mountaineer that has an island. One of the receptacles on the island is a GFI. The refrigerator is on the same circuit as the GFI. If yours is same check GFI. Mine popped so often taking out the refrigerator that I ran another dedicate circuit to the refrigerator.
Of course if in auto and your propane is on and bled it should fire off on gas. The fault codes displayed is powered by 12V DC not 120 AC.

I seem to remember in 2019 I resolved the problem by resetting a GFI outlet. It's been 2 years, can't remember, but I will reset any GFI's as a first pass before checking electrical. I know there's a GFI in the bathroom, and I think there may be one in the galley on the side of the wall of the refrigerator.

This then begs the question -- why has the GFI tripped twice?

Maybe there is an electrical problem with a ground fault.

I'll report back after I check the GFI and hookup to shore power. I'm taking the rig out in 1.5 weeks.
