Ford Factory Hitch?

Hello everyone, first post from a 5th wheel owner wannabe trying to learn from you all.
I am getting ready to exchange my 10 yo F-350 for a new one and I am wondering what you think about the Ford hitch. It looks a lot like a Reese in the sales book, rated 19K, but I can't find a pin weight rating on it. If I don't go that route, I was leaning toward a B&W Companion when the time comes. (probably a 3121 in the fall). The B&W is rated 20k/5K.
The truck will be an 8' bed with the gooseneck/5th wheel prep (pucks).
Both hitches are close in price although I may have some freight on the Companion unless I can get the dealer to throw it in to make the Montana deal.
The Ford hitch would be easy, it just shows up with the truck. Thoughts?

I have teh pucks and a B&W Companion. Works fine for me. easy to insert and remove (except the weight) Also have the FORD OEM TPMS and Trailer camera.

I also have the B&W w/Ford pucks.
I think you should hit up both dealers to see which one will throw in the correct hitch with the deal.
also thinking most of the 20K hitches are 5k pin weight rated.

Is your truck dedicated to towing or do you use it for other things. If it is dedicated to towing any of those hitches will work. Lots of options with a long bed truck. If you need to get to a clean bed while camping (hitch out with nothing on the floor of the truck) you either need a good friend with you while camped or a lighter hitch. I am going with the Pullrite 3900, which allows me to remove two pins and take off the 40 lb hitch head and then the 34 lb base and I am down to a clean bed. Just another option. If I did not need that ability, any traditional hitch will do the job - Curt, B&W, Reese, Pullrite, etc. just providing another option.

Don’t know what hitch is Ford factory now. But for my 2012 F350 with factory hitch prep it was the Reese Elite hitch. I have been very happy with it as it has always worked great. And I really like the wrap around jaw for very positive latching. And with two pins the head also comes off to make removal easier.

I found a used 27.5 K one for $300.00. Came in the guys truck but he hauled gooseneck cattle trailers so it sat in the sun for several years. I stripped all the stickers and gave it a fresh coat of paint. Really happy with it.

Thanks all for the replies. Good to hear that the Ford hitch head is removeable to make install/remove lighter, the B@W is the same. The link to Ford accessories was helpful also as I found the smaller 19K hitch has a pin weight rating of 4.5K.
Sounds like neither would be a mistake, I'll do a little more research and see what I can do on the deal when the time comes. Might be still leaning toward the Companion for the slightly higher specs.

Both will handle the weight. Take a look at how the locking jaws function. You may prefer one style over the other.

Have the RV dealer swap the pin box for a Reese Goosebox on the trailer then you won’t need a heavy hitch in your truck ever and the cost should be comparable

I have the Ford puck system with a B&W companion; my second B&W, very happy with it. Can't speak for the Ford hitch, but I'm sure it is fine.

The B&W also has the feature to remove two pins and take the top portion of the hitch out separately from the base. Makes it easier for one person to do it.

I got the factory hitch. There was a choice of sizes and I got the biggest. It's made by REESE.

I have a 2019 F350, with puck system and use the B&W 25 K companion, pulling a Montana 3931FB. Love the setup.

I have an 2021 f350 dually long bed with a companion hitch. Love it! Also, I bought my 2020 3855br from CW and they threw the hitch in on the deal.

I have a F-350 2018 8' bed which I purchased new and had the Curt A20 (Rated 20K/5K hitch) which is spec'd for the F-350 (no additional holes etc). Takes about 5 minutes to remove or re-install albeit it is heavy....place in the 4 holes and turn 2 locking arms. Used on our 2013 37' Montana and now with our 41' 3139FB.....works great.

I think most, if not all, the newer hitches are good now. Some of the older clam shell hitches and sliding bar hitches could be problematic. But mostly a thing of the past now.

Get the underside pucks but take a look at the Andersen Hitch

This hitch uses the goose neck ball in your bed and is rated at 24,000 lbs. It only weighs 35 lbs so you can easily take it out of the truck and have a flat bed I love mine and I'm seeing more and more of them in use.

Kind of hard to believe something that weighs 35 lbs will handle all the variables a 17,000 5er could put it through.
