Hitch help
Bought a new 3121 RL Montana a while back and have been using my old 16K Husky slider hitch, but recently experienced a problem with the slider engaging when turning to the left. Trailer jerks violently. Any recommendations on a new hitch? Looking at the B&W 18K patriot slider. Have a quote of $869.00 and they say I can continue to use my old rails which were just installed when I bought the truck in Febr. 2021. I'm driving a 2019 XLT F-350 diesel 4x4.

I used B&W slider puck on my first truck - 2nd truck (LWB) using Pull Rite that locks on Goose Ball - much prefer the latching/unlatching on Pull Rite

I've used my B&W with first a short bed using the turn over base and now a long bed using the puck base with nary a problem of cab interference. Yes, it is a possibility but a very rare over a90 degree turn. I do, even with the long bed have that B&W with the arms facing back which puts the king pin a little bit behind the truck rear axle ceneterline but in 50K plus miles have never had a problem. Not sure what Ram Montana meant by latching likes. Once the pin has slid in the jaws my B&W gives a nice solid 'clank' and it's firmly hooked up.

Just my opinion, but B & W make great hitches. I've been very happy with ours and their customer service is great too.

B&W is a very popular hitch. But Reese Elite, Pullrite Super 5th, Curt, and others all have their fans also. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the new hitches. Sorta like which truck is best.

B&W. Compare the locking mechanism and jaw size to others then make your decision.

I am sure the B&W latch is very secure. But I am sold on the wrap around jaw of the Reese Elite and Pullrite Super 5th that rotates around and encircles the king pin, and is geared to the release handle and can’t move when that handle is latched.

Yeah...to be fair. I haven't seen a Pullrite in forever. I was just overwhelmed with the size of the jaws on the B&W. They have to be an inch thick. We compared them side by side and the B&W jaws just seemed more robust. I guess what it really boils down to is preference.

Any of the hitches mentioned above is a great hitch. Buy the one you can get installed the easiest or cheapest.

I agree.
I do like my B&W but the others would be fine as well. I ended up with a B&W because my last truck had a B&W goose neck under bed hitch as I bought it used. Might have bought SOB if it hadn't had that feature. I'll date myself but my first 5er hitch in 1974 was a New Holland as was my dads in 1969/70

At the last MOC rally, Pullrite hosted a tour of their Manufactuing facility in Indiana. It was very educational. They are one of the few manufacturers that do the voluntary SAE J2638 testing. We got to see their hitches and the competition after testing was completed. I will not say anything negative about other hitches, but there were some that did not fair well. Here is a link to the description of the testing. https://www.pullrite.com/J2638

I was using a B&W companion slider and really liked it. I just sold it last week because I have a long bed now and don’t need the slider. So my new stationary B&W companion hitch is being delivered tomorrow. So, that said if I am buying another hitch from the same company i must have had a good experience.
Happy trails!

We went with the B&W hitch with the roll over ball. Our trailer had a goose neck adapter on it when we bought. It works great. Because of the shorter box, we use a 4" extension ball so we can make the tight turns. I just ordered a Reese Goosebox to replace the Lippert Pin box. Looking for to getting it changed out. The roll over ball is great because i have full use of the truck bed when i'm not towing and i don't have to remover a heavy piece of equipment with the 5th wheel hitch.

I have a Pullrite Super Slider and I am very happy with it and it’s performance. Going on five years no problems. I never take mine out, my truck is used pretty much for towing.

I’ve had my B&W Companion for 6 years now and have not had a day of trouble with it. The weight is no fun to move it, but I’ll deal with that for peace of mind!!!

The B&W hitches are great hitches, have owned 3 B&W hitches. I had a B&W ordered in April, finally gave up on 16 June. There are many waiting on B&W's. I just ordered a Trailer Saver, Air Ride. The 2021 Montana 3762BP is a long trailer 41', the Trailer Saver will save the 3762BP, because of the air ride. I have no issues at all and highly recommend the B&W, but, we purchased the 2021 Montana on 25 April, have yet to go and get the 2021 Montana. Will go Wed. and bring her home. Good Luck with your choice.
Happy Trails.
