New Montana Owner
Picking up a (new) 2011 3615RE tomorrow. Quite Excited... Purchased it in Duluth, MN. at Bullyans RV. At this time I'll be towing with a 2005 chevy 2500 D/A. This will be our 3rd trailer(first fifth wheel) and we plan to keep this one a while. The house is full of gear out of our last trailer. It'll take a couple days to get the Montana packed and organized. I'll be installing Steadyfast stabilizers next week. and head out Thursday for our first trip with it. Plan on adding a few more accesorys to it in the near future like vent covers and maybe slide covers. The wife has plans for the interior like, real curtains, furnature covers, and ???.
We also have two small 4 legged travel companions.

Congrats on the new rig. Since this is your first 5th wheel be sure to save money for new tires in case it has Marathons on it...

Marathons? Are they worse than the Duro's on my last trailer. Haven't had any problems with them actually. I did check the date code on the Marathons and they are 3 years old. Been sitting on the lot for 2 years. We are a little nervous about them. Thats why we purchased the tire and wheel insurance. Anything else I should watch out for???

John-- First off Welcome Aboard! You'll be seeing this is the best forum you can be on when it comes to advise on the Montanas! If you want to see what the Marathons have/had been doing, co to the top of the page and go to the Search engine and key in Marathons! I think you'll have a few things to read. IF not many threads come up to to the archives and check that out also. Why not come on down to Goshen, IN and join us for the MOC Fall Rally next month! You'll be able to meet some of the MOC members that post here on the forum and also get to see some of the add-ons that some of us have put onto our Montes. You'll be able to go through the factory and see how your Monte was put together from the frame up!

If your trailer has been sitting on the lot for 2 years in the weather I would not go far with them or very fast. Sitting makes a bad tire even worse. But that's my opinion, don't want to turn your good news thread into a tire thread but, yeah, I would worry if it has just been sitting.

Welcome. I too am a new fifth wheel owner and this forum has been invaluable for great information and lessons learned from some real experts. I would suggest reading as much as you can within the various forum topics to get a variety of opinions and experiences. It is addictive. I would also suggest that you be careful of the Marathons. If it were me i would make it a final condition of the sale that they put different tires on it before you sign on the bottom line. If you do then there a lot of people here that have had good experiences with the Goodyear 614. I have only a few miles on my new Monty and will be trading out the new Marathons for the 614's at the end of the month when we head to Yellowstone. My dealer is giving me credit on them so he can put new tires on a used trailer he is trying to sell so its a win win. If i had not purchased the until i would have insisted that the 614's had been part of the sale. Now is the time for you to make the change. Good luck !

Thanks for the invite to the rally. I'll keep it in mind. Don't want this to turn into a tire discussion but, I do want more info on these tires and suitable replacements. I'll start looking for tire info elseware in the forums.
Thanks

Pulled it home yesterday. It pulled very nice behind the truck but it was empty except for 40-50 gallons of water in the tank. Fuel milage was only about a half mile per gallon less than pulling my 34 ft. V nose TT, which shocked me. I was expecting fuel milage to drop off qite a bit more than that. Started putting our gear in it and the DW was complaining that she didn't have enough stuff to pack things tightly enough for traveling. I got a few good laughs at her frustrations with the over abundance of storage. Lots of work yet to do today getting the Monty ready. Monday I will be installing helper springs on the truck and Steadyfast stabilizers on the Monty. First thing I have to do today is put some skull protectors on the bedroom slide outside corners. She drew blood yesterday.

That is a nice problem to have isn't it? The 5th wheels sure do pull nicely. Enjoy. Dennis

Congrats and welcome! Like you, we had two TTs prior to our Monty - and we're very glad we made the step up.
Enjoy your first trip! :-)

Congrats and welcome. We purchased our Monty in Florida and 100 miles up the road to Michigan blew the first tire. There was a Discouont Tire at the next exit so the road service wrecker followed us there, and lo and behold there was a campground right next door, to the Cracker Barrel, between the campground and tire store. Next morning, Saturday I called over there and the manager said they were booked up. I explained we were trying to get to Michigan as fast as possible as Susie's Aunt was dieing and the Family had been called in. He asked where I was, then said send your Family over to Cracker Barrel, come over here and I'll show you where to park. Parked the 5th wheel and went to Cracker Barrel and before I was done eating the tire manager came in and said your ready for the road, with 5 brand new Load Range E, 10 ply tires. We have Discount Tires on all of our vehicles, and would recommend them to everyone. Their road service replacement plans are unbeatable. Enjoy your Monty, e have had 4 other RV'd before this one, and I doubt we would ever trade up, this one has absolutely everything we would ever want we think. Love our Monty. Happy Camping and come in often and share your travels. Happy Trails, Steve and Susie
